Although these go in and out of stock, these seem like normal prices when they are available through Walmart.com. Target usually has prices that are close to these too (again, when in stock).

For anyone that hasn't bought these, the widemouth are about a billion times nicer to deal with. Does anyone have a use case where the narrow ones are actually better?

When you have tiny person hands? Literally no other reason to do it. Harder to clean, harder to scope out whatever is inside, etc.

A little tip for people who have never used glass jars. NEVER take a jar that is boiling hot and plunge it into very cold water to cool it down. It will shatter the glass. Instead use warm water to cool it down so the glass doesn't expand/shrink too fast and shatter.

These jars have a weird design for the lids. A loose cap that falls off the closing lid. Lid doesn't come off as single unit but is made up of two loose parts.

if someone understands the reasoning for this design, let us know. I cant think of the benefits with this weird design
If you're using these for canning things (vegetables, homemade jam, etc) these lids allow a proper seal to be made. There's a whole process involved, but these lids are used for that.

In normal Walmart fashion, these ship under-packed. A jingly box full of glass shards will arrive whether you do ship to store or ship to home. Just go buy them in person.

If that happens, get a refund and you can probably keep the ones that didn't break.

I bought some of these before Christmas for BBQ sauce. This is normal price, but still better than anywhere else.

Literally 100% were broken in both instances. The boxes were comedically full of broken glass.

That's crazy! I had some broken ones but most were intact. The packaging was definitely suspect sometimes. Most of the time, they've come all good though.

Didnt hipsters and bored housewives hoard these at the start of Covid?
.
Anyone that cans/preserves and wants to know what they are feeding their children have always 'hoarded' jars of all types and sizes. Beginning with a garden, those 'housewives' are anything but bored.

The shortage was the lids/seals.

When reusing, you just buy a box of seals and not the whole lid.

When canning, you just barely snug the lid and the vacuum created 'pops' the seal lid and then you can tighten. When checking later, you can easily tell if any came unsealed.

It sounds like you, or someone you know does a little canning. Most all farm stores like Tractor Supply [tractorsupply.com] carry canning supplies (with some decorative or otherwise unique jars) and usually have a sale once or twice a year. It is typically best to pick jars up in store, as shipping is hit and miss for breakage.
