120hz refresh rate. However, there can be an issue with these chips so enable and check it when you get it.

Great unless you want to game on new consoles or PC where you want HDMI 2.1 features (120Hz or higher with VRR). Sony still can't manage to support to that.

Per Rtings review, it looks like it doesn't consistently support 4k@120Hz. It cuts the vertical resolution in half (interlaced) so some text can look a little funny and wouldn't ever try to use it as a PC monitor at that setting.

That being said, it is going to still be a pretty slick display. I have the Sony X900H from a couple years ago with this same issue at 4k@120Hz and it still looks amazing on a Series X. Get's crazy bright and great handling of motion.

Scores 7.5 vs 8.4 for the U8G at rtings.

I worry a little about reliability with the Hisense, but then my 6 year old Sony X810C has an issue where it won't turn on sometimes until you unplug it. That makes me nervous.
01-18-2022 at 11:43 AM
As far as performance the U8G is much better BUT Hisense is a Chinese company with build issues and poor customer service.

According to the BB website... this deal is part of their 4-Day Savings Event that ends Thurs. 1/20/22 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Amazon usually coincides with BB as long as they have it in-stock.

Mainly... the X90CJ adds more brightness (HDR mode), local dimming, and the new cognitive processor.

That model has native 60hz refresh rate. Other difference in quality probably down the line.

it should be noted that Sony did send a firmware update out to add VRR support after the Rtings review. Rtings has not gotten around to testing it after the update, yet. These sets do have VRR now.
This is an excellent tv for the price. I have the 85" version paired with my PS5 and it's just awesome!
Sony added the VRR support during an update in December.
I have an Apple TV 4K connected as well for HBO, Netflix, and Disney+. All the content that comes in Dolby Vision looks stunning.
The built in apps work great as well, but if you do a side by side comparison, the Apple TV is pulling down a higher bit rate.

I agree with comments here about X90 being more preferred due the local dimming LED array. It's nice to have, but not a deal breaker considering the cost of this X85J.
The X85J has a full panel array lighting which is still a step up from edge lit panels.
Good point on the off angle viewing. You would need to step down to the X80J which has much better viewing angles. Also of note both this model and the X80J have a ATSC 3.0 tuner for next gen tv which is a nice bonus for the ota crowdSmilie

Is this the model where it halves the vertical resolution if trying to send a 4K/120hz signal?

Anyone have thoughts between this and the x90j? Looking at the 75" x90cj at costco for $1699, wondering if the prices will come down before the superbowl.

For those interested in this aspect (I think more people have this situation than realize it), it scores a 5.5 in Rting's off-angle viewing test. That's not good (according to them) but to be fair, it's not necessarily worse than other options around this price.

It does make it not an option for me. It's frustrating that it seems the options for decent off angle performance are OLED and very high prices, or IPS and relatively poor performance (although I personally don't have a huge problem with most modern IPS TV image quality).

This concerned me at first. I watched the rtings VA test video and didn't feel as bad as I'd expect from a 5.5, but admittedly the video was with a static, fairly bright image.
