I am a new home owner and just started to look at DIY tools to start with light work and then build a little bit more sophisticated cupboards for extra storage. Can anyone please educate me if I should buy this? I tried to read older threads and saw some YouTube videos but I am still confused.

Anyone considering this package (which is now listed for $149) would be much better off going with the deal posted earlier for this $139 bundle [homedepot.com], which also includes a drill, additional battery, a bag, and bonus 70pc driver kit, for $10 less.

Gotta be careful with these combo packages, and make sure one is truly selecting the best value option.

There's another listing of that $139 bundle for the same price that doesn't include the driver kit. It gets crappy reviews, but why not, if it's thrown in for free?

If you are just getting started, get a cordless drill and impact driver combo. The cheapest Ryobi combo will be fine. Depending on what you are building, maybe a circular saw but that could be corded if you are not using it a lot. Many stores will cut wood or you can find wood cut to dimensions so you may not need to do more than screw things together.

This is a good suggestion. Once you purchase the drill/impact driver you can check your local Goodwill and see if they have any of the old (blue) 18V tools. This is where I picked up my palm sander and saw for $5.00 each. Both are still working great years later and use the same 18V battery.

Thank you for the suggestion. It is helpful in clarifying some of my doubts. Repped!
