No matter what size or brand you buy, definitely opt for a locking option. I have two more expensive brand name ones without locking pins and the work just fine but after heavy use the pins get loose. Also if you clumsy like I am sometimes you get you pattern and when you're transferring it, you'll accidentally bum some of the pins and F up the pattern and have to restart.

I bit on this deal last month - used the reasoning that someday, somehow I'll need to use it. (There's a special section in my workbench for Slickdeals I've bought that way... and actually over time have eventually used). Just pointing out the fun I had reading Sakir's packaging and instructions when it arrived. Was nervous about quality when outer box said that my satisfaction was "gunarnteed" ...and if not, I'd get a "fuii " refund. (FYI quality was fine for me an occasional home handyman) . The use instructions started with a warm "hello friend" and ended with a "wish you a happy life". I mean, Craftsman never wished me a happy life or said I was Sears' friend. Good $6 buy and aside from need for a spellchecker, the included instructions had good visuals and multiple colored photos .

This is such a genius yet simply invention. I don't need it atm, but I can see myself buying this for sure someday.

What's the regular price? It doesn't say on the Amazon product page.

The 5" version doesn't seem particularly helpful and likely designed specifically for door jambs.

Those are not available, but same 3pc is here [amazon.com] for $8.99.

The difference is they are not lockable like the OP and the OP is not connectable like those higher priced.

About 90% of the time, I just transfer with a compass, but I am old school. I have never found any of these low end contour gauges particularly accurate with corners and especially with multiple corners like door jambs. For door jambs, I just set a piece of whatever scrap flooring against and use an oscillating tool that is then perfect with no concerns of contractions/movement leaving a little gap.

Oh, maybe, but too time consuming and you have to be parallel with the flooring that is coming to it. Just use an oscillating tool and bury the flooring under the jamb.

The OP 5" is just another tool that you have if you need it ---such as in tight places something larger will not fit. I am not opposed to it, as after all, it is lockable, but I prefer the connectable versions with smaller metal pins for more accuracy that do cost more. Then again, if close, there is not much a caulk gun cannot conceal. Smilie

Yes 10" would offer much more benefits and be a pleasure to work with……
