It looks like this is one of TP-Link's mesh systems that will not have WiFi 6E available with a firmware upgrade like their Deco X96 model. For anyone living in an apartment complex or a housing district that houses are built on top of each other, you might want to wait for a 6Ghz option.

TPLink just announced the 6E version of this same router. I forget the new model number but yes, it is here (at CES at least). You can see it on their website.

The issue though is that none of your equipment (phones, laptops, TVs) will have Wifi 6E anytime real soon....just keep that in mind. The one benefit right away still MIGHT BE that the 3 satellites could talk to each other on the dedicated backhaul channel of 6ghz. I am not sure if that is how it will be set up or not.

The only issue I have with this mesh, is that if I lose power, it takes days to reconnect.
If I am not home to do a hard reset, the router takes about four days to auto reconnect to the modem.
This seems to be an issue with TP Link.

I just got this set of 3 from BestBuy, replacing an old tender* (hopefully you get the gist. SD blocks the name) mesh network. Night and day difference on multiple fronts.
• Zero dead spots (~2200 sqft condo)
• Huge speed jump to 510MBS on my iPhone XS (gigabit service from Xfinity.) Previous was around 80MBS when standing right next to the tender* model
• App is great

YMMV of course but so far they've been a great upgrade in our house.

Excellent system. I bought it from the last deal last quarter of last year. Fixed all my dead spots and covered a 4000sq ft house and 4 gar garage area with plenty of bars. It also extended wifi to the end of my backyard and into the street at the front yard. I only used 2 of 3 nodes. I will prob use the 3rd one to create a wired network in the garage or my office some of my servers.

Basically everywhere in the house I'm pegging my speed test at what my internet speed is.

The only issue I have is the homeshield/parental control that sits behind a paywall. But it's enough to be able to control my kids internet and I can group device basted on family members (son, daughter, wife) to monitor their time online.
Umm…and how does your wife feel about you limiting her internet? 🤣

Thinking the new model is XE75.

Regarding the 6 GHz backhaul... The 6 GHz band also delivers a powerful dedicated backhaul to further streamline the WiFi performance of non-6E devices

I don't agree with this, at least it hasn't been my experience with both the Deco M9 or the Deco X68. In both cases if you lose power, the system restarts itself and everything is working again in 3-4 minutes. This actually just happened the other day when my son unplugged the extension cord to the main router unit to plug in his phone to the outlet. He thought he was unplugging a pencil sharpener and then he wondered why the internet wasn't working. Once I plugged it back in, it powered up and started working in a few minutes.

Strange, try switching the nodes around? I never had an issue between the m5, now my m9's. Immediate reconnect.

Ok thanks. I assume that new unit will be more expensive than these X68s, and again I wonder how much real world benefit there will be until people have wifi 6E clients to use as well. Also the 6ghz is going to have even less range than 5ghz (which already has less range than 2.4ghz) and so it will mean you may need to be even more careful about how you lay out your 3 units so they can still keep a good link between them. I guess until this new unit is released into the wild and someone can do a proper test, I wouldn't personally wait for it. If you need an upgrade today then this X68/AX3600 is a good unit, and you can always sell it on Ebay or Facebook or whatever in another 1-2 years once the 6E units are here and it is known they are better.

Now if the new 6E unit is coming at BASICALLY THE SAME PRICE as these then I would totally wait, of course. My assumption is that the new unit would be priced at 75-100 more, or more.

For anyone that might own these, do these allow separate SSIDs for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks? Many WiFi smart devices that I own (including TP-Link's own smart switches, dimmers, plugs etc. as well as those from other brands) work with only the 2.4Ghz and unable to pair with the WiFi network if the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz use the same SSID. There are hacks/workarounds but don't always work and my current Mesh network (Eero) does not allow separate SSIDs for the two frequencies or a long term workaround to get the 2.4Ghz-only WiFi smart devices on the network. I have an unopened Netgear Mesh from Costco but found out that one also does not allow separate SSIDs. So wondering if this one might be different/better in that respect?

Thanks for any input,
-Topper
Tp link switches and smart devices work fine with single Ssid for both 2.4 and 5 ghz networks. So that Netgear Orbi or this will work

Set up the guest network as 2.4 only and a separate ssid, problem solved.
