According to reviews you need to be 3 feet in front of this for the bluetooth to work. All that hovering, you might as well just take it out.
Yep, got a plus at Xmas and couldn't get 50 ft direct line of site...no close the lid to the grill. However, was with someone who had it and there's worked well and they were over 50 ft away...
good deal if it's really for the meater plus as shown in the pictures. the original meater will only get you ~10ft of range in your smoker, and it's not robust enough to be used for sustained high temp searing.

The Meater is monitored and controlled via your smartphone, but you can connect via WiFi or Bluetooth. The WiFi connection takes a little more setup but lets you connect to a cloud server and check the thermometer from anywhere.
We don't recommend leaving a grill unattended, but you could walk the dog or grab something from your neighbor while keeping an eye on your meat's temperature. Bluetooth connectivity is available as well, but it has a pretty lackluster 33-foot range.
Yeah, I've read about the spotty bluetooth connection issues. Supposedly if you have a spare tablet or phones, you can leave it laying near the smoker/grill, and it'll sync data to the cloud so you can access it anywhere.
My distance with the plus is good (can be indoors while grill outdoors 40+ ft away) as long as the repeater is within 5 feet of the grill.
The only issue I have is the ambient temperature reading is always off by about 100 degrees. tested in my grill and oven and same thing. Don't know if there is a way to calibrate it. Ambient temp influences the estimated time to cook I think.
Doesn't seem like this will be the plus version considering the price difference. If it is, this is definitely a great deal. I use the Meater+ all the time for my longer smoke sessions and I like the dual sensors to make sure temps don't get out of hand. The temp readings are pretty spot on; I use this in combination with a Thermapro pen to validate temps. It saves quite a bit of trips - The bluetooth range is limiting and the Bluetooth signal itself comes from the repeater which is the case it comes out of. I set up my Kindle to it and then I can use my phone to monitor it from anywhere. If you plan on staying within the specified range (not taking things that block signal such as concrete walls, metal, etc) or if you have another device to get it set up to WiFi this is a great product.
If you don't have another device and want to go inside away from the grill, then this isn't the right product for you. They have another one that has a base that can connect to WiFi on it's own but that's another $100 or so - not applicable to this deal of course.

Only the Plus version does this capability.
