Are you sure? On the non-Plus Meater page [meater.com], it does mention "MEATER Link WiFi" and "MEATER Cloud".

This thing has had issues since launch, issues that have never been addressed, mostly connectivity.

Always hoped they would fix it and make it everything they promised in the Kickstarter but I've just stuck with my Fireboard.

DO NOT buy the regular Meater, totally useless the moment you close the lid, signal completely cuts off.

The Meater + is much better, I still get drops once in a while.

The standard Meater should be able to do it as well. I think the only diff between the that and the + is the enhanced range charging block / repeater. I've had a couple Meater+s and have used them pretty often. The range is NOWHERE close to what they claim. I use my old phone for the MeaterLink and leave it near the repeater blocks, then open the app on my main phone or tablet. Works perfectly like that. Wouldn't mind picking up a couple of these at this price.

I've had a standard meater for about 6 months now and I use it mostly with my Kamado joe jr and sometimes when I roast things in the oven. When I smoke meat in my kamado, I can usually get 5 to 15 feet away without having issues. If I foil any meat in the kamado, then I have to be within 5 feet of the grill to receive a Bluetooth signal. I don't mind since I use a spare phone that I leave close to my grill. As someone else mentioned about the ambient temperature being off, I've seen that too. You can't calibrate the thermometer from what I read but usually the reason for the thermometer ambient temperature being off is due to the reading being taken close to the meat surface. But I can say that the internal temperature is spot on as I've gotten the same readings from other temperature probes in the same piece of meat after probing. For this price I'm definitely going to get another one

I'd be in if Woot changed it to Deal-O-Meater for this one.

Irritating deal. This is surely the non-plus version, yet put the Meater+ picture. AMAZON's Woot is so shady. The original Meater has almost no range and is useless to most people. That's why they made the Meater Plus. The Plus was made to address the inadequate range with advanced gen bluetooth. The plus has 5X it's range. The list price on their site is $69 for the original Meater, and $99 for the Meater Plus. Only a fool would by a the original Meater. It's paying that last $30 that makes it functional. They kept the original Meater on the page for awhile now. I think home cooks that are technical enough to buy something like this do not buy the original Meater version so they have original meater stock that just isn't moving. This is my speculation to be clear, but that's exactly what it looks like to me.

Metal stops RF waves, and BBQ grills are made of metal. The bluetooth signal can barely escape the walls.

This thing works by making a bluetooth link between the thermometer to the bamboo base, then the bamboo base acts as a bluetooth repeater making a link to your phone. The theroretical range is 30 feet in line of sight, and especially no metal barier.

The Meater Plus has problems making a bluetooth connection between a metal BBQ and the base for some. FOr the original Meater, hopefully your BBQ has a counter top to put stuff and hopefully when you set the meater base unit on it it makes connection. You might find there is a better spot for connection, but no place to set it down on that spot. OR it might not be a problem at all. Just have to roll the dice, and whatever you get, you live with.

BBQs get to temps like 700F. Dicey temp. This thing has a external temp limit up to 500F? (or something like that). So that's not good for high temp enviornment. Better for Smokers, and gentler BBQ cooking. There will be moments a BBQ will be way hotter than should be till you adjust it. Those small error windows can toast your meater. So smokers look like a better use.

I want to get one of these for 27.99 knowing it's the original meater because of greed i guess. I have a meater plus. Got it for 73.99 around black friday. My Meater+ works good for me because my BBQ is next to my bedroom. There's only one wall and short distance. Meater Plus is on the BBQ shelf and is 2 feet away from BBQ. I might even be able to use the original meater on this setup. Though glad I have the Plus so I don't have perpetually have worry on my mind.

If you happen to have very short distances between where you will be waiting and the BBQ this could be a steal. Any longer, and this is a total waste of money bonus packed with hours of frustration.

A cableless thermometer is great. Who wants to deal with oven cables? The problem is the first gen is just flat inadequate for most situations, and the Meater Plus is passable, yet too expensive except for a dedicated chronic cook (like me).

The most frugal move for most is to wait out 2 years and the price will drop a bit at same time kinks are ironed out.

The Meater Plus does work well for me, because I happen to have a good arrangement of all short distances. It has worked fine the 10 times I've used it so far. I can only guess if it will last 6 months, 1, 2, or 3+ years.

I'm inclined to get a few as giflts since they are so cheap. It doesn't add up. They will have frustration more than I would with it, since I know exactly how it works and what's up.

If I recall correctly, Woot doesn't let you do returns unless it's damaged, and there are no replacement inventory left. Otherwise they just send you another one if you say it's damaged. Not a good policy for something that may work for your arrangement, but probably wont.

Another twist. If download the app on a spare mobile device (old phone, tablet etc) and set it by the bamboo base station, it will make a bluetooth link from thermometer to base station then a bluetooth link from base station to mobile, then a WIFI link from mobil to your home network. So in that scenerio you have complete wifi range from where the spare mobile device is to your wifi network, and I beleive, even if you are miles away, using your phones celluar connection linked to your home wifi network. So if you want to deal with an extra mobile device with your greasy BBQ hands that's an option. Seems like a good option for long slow cooks, not so much fun if you BBQ all the time. I believe this function is availible for both original meater and meater plus.

I don't know everything. This is all based on my experiences and lots of reading.

tl;dr This might be a good option if your BBQ is very close to the location you will be waiting, or if you want to deal with additional mobile device as a wifi range extender, and you have no problem making a connection between your metal BBQ and the base, The performance varies wildy depending your setup's locations, which is not a good combo with a deal that can not be returned.

First of all, we all know woot sells absolute bottom of the bin garbage products that Amazon can't sell anymore. Secondly, they don't have a customer service phone number and with the pandemic it's been such a pain communicating with them via email. Lastly, look up reviews on Amazon of this product the range is terrible and eventually the wifi device breaks. I would also look up the seller profile of this company last time I checked it was low 80's% all time

Took a look at it but will pass on it. I already have multiple bluetooth units that work fine at distances of over 50' going thru multiple walls. The only benefit to the Meater is it can be used when a rotisserie is used. The only Meater I would consider is the Wi-Fi one.

After digging around on Woot, I think it's most likely the non-Plus version. I'll probably still pick up one or two at this price and try to use it with a spare ipad (mainly because none of the probes I have right now do graphs).

I can't speak to this deal in particular, but I have to say that my Meater+ is amazing. It works great and has easily paid for itself in saving time and avoiding ruining meat. One of my favorite products of all time.

The one for sale isn't the Plus. This version has a theorietical range of 33 feet. The Plus version has a theoretical range of 165 feet. It's gauged on line of sight in perfect conditions. The actual range is much lower. That said, I love my meater plus too. But, again, I'm lucky. BBQ is basically 15 feet away with a wall in between. Also, I stop myself when I start loving it, because I've had it for a month, and if it breaks after two months then, 'duh'. Time will tell.

The only people who should Chance buying this woot deal are ones who don't mind running their app on a 2nd mobile device and leaving it next to the bamboo base. That will give them wifi range. A bluetooth (old bluetooth range) connection must also be successfully made between the grill to the bamboo base, which may be a problem even at 3 feet (according to others I've read).

I know I'm repeating myself in this thread. It's just all this stuff is really imporant to 'get' before you buy, so you can best assess if it can work for you, especially since the there is no return on these. If it's broken, you get an exchange.

Curious, How long have you had yours with no issue?
