A fair warning to anyone who doesn't have these in your house. This pack is a gateway drug into having them in your whole house.

Tread with caution. It gets expensive

No worries. I was looking for a sunrise alarm for my son and found I could use this with an iOS app (Sleep Cycle) that tracks sleep to do the same. Looks like I could also use the bridge with the Apple Home ecosystem to have more features. Thought I would share if anyone was looking.

Those won't change color temperatures.

It mentions that it supports Alexa, but no mention of Google Home? That seems odd to me. I just bought the White 2-Pack starter from BB for $45. Wondering if I should return for this kit, but I need Google support.

I have devices that require a hub so no big deal but wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing why not recommend using devices that don't require a hub?
Purely for performance reasons. There are also limited functions in the Bluetooth Hue app as compared to those available in the full app which are available when you use the hub.

I've had such a bad experience with the smart Phillips Hue lights. I don't recommend them anymore. I bought a whole bunch of these when I moved into a new house. A few of them failed shortly after warranty and I have tried everything to fix them including resetting the bridge, firmware, factory reset…etc)

They won't even work as regulars lights after they broke. The issue I had is they won't turn on…if you unscrew them and back on, they will turn on but as soon as you do any smart function or touch the physical switch they will stay off (even if physical switch is flipped on and off) until you unscrew then and back on again.

Customer support won't even begin to help diagnose the issue because the warranty is over.

Just get smart light switches (if you have a neutral wire)…much cheaper and less headaches.

yikes... philips acquired wize or whatever it's called and have them in philips' other line, which i just picked up 2 bulbs yesterday and presently i'm using them.

they are hubless and bulbs connect to your 2.4hz wifi. i set them up yesterday and this morning as a test, the bulbs came on 7am to wake me up (bulbs need to be told to turn OFF via its mobile app, but light switch on your wall needs to be ON).

It has Google Home support. Just a failure on the description I suppose -- I use these everyday with Google Home.

There is a setting to change how the bulb reacts when power is restored. I think you should try to reset the hub again and if necessary, try swapping the hub. Also, check for other devices that could be controlling the hue lights. I've had issues with f.lux on my PC trying to control my hue lights.

I've got over 20 bulbs and they work really well outside of the once in a blue moon glitch.

For those that already have a hub, wouldn't this be a better deal?

No, those are the white bulbs, this deal is for the Ambiance bulbs which have White and Warm White.

Boycott the lightbulb monopolies, they have built planned obsolescence into their product. Light bulbs could last for ever!

These are not the Ambiance version that'll shift from white to warm-white. But otherwise yes, these are cheaper per bulb.
Not true… description clearly indicates that they "offer the full spectrum of white light, from cool to warm." They are in fact the ambiance version.

Does anyone have any feedback on these white tunable ones vs the color ambience (and only using the white spectrum)? Does either one give a better range and do the white color ranges match between the white ambiance and the color ambiance?
My experience: the warmth adjustment of light is great, particularly in the bedroom and kitchen, or a reading lamp in the living room. I like having a "clean" neutral/daylight white in the kitchen while cooking, but changing it to a more relaxing warm while eating. The sunrise/sunset effect at bedtime is very nice. I think it was great for Philipps to make these available separately and at lower cost than the full color ones.

The color bulbs are fun at first, but the attraction fades and you start wondering how often do you want purple/red lights. Eventually, you just use them as accents on holidays, but there's not much point using them as main bulbs unless you live a cyberpunk lifestyle.

The "plain" soft white bulbs seem a bit "ordinary," but sometimes you don't want crazy lights. A dimmer is sometimes special enough, and my favorite things to do with any hue lights is turning them off from bed or on with my voice (or all off to save energy after 12:30pm). The "plain" soft white bulbs do all of this. I first got one for my porch light to greet me and light up the keyhole before I got inside, which was great, but I realized that would have been good enough in most fixtures.

So, I think the Ambiance lights make the best gift and starter set, the "plain" soft white lights are best for expanding your system and filling your house/apartment, and then the color lights are maybe just fun for entertaining in the game room or living room sometimes. The Zigbee mesh network is nice and strong, and since I have 12 bulbs spread around most of our house, the connection is more stable and wider than our WiFi, and I wouldn't want to be constantly trying to connect with Bluetooth (remote control from away from home is kinda nice).
