These tests are supposed to be kept above freezing, so warning for anyone in northern states that they may freeze in transit and not be effective.

Quote from Tobric :
Side note: To get around the address lock, I put the apartment number in the first box and the street address in the second. This may or may not work for everyone.

Lol. It’s the USPS. They already have your address.
01-18-2022 at 07:26 PM
You don’t want the usps to have your address? How do you think your mail shows up? Lol.
Anyways, no there’s no pick up option.
01-18-2022 at 07:30 PM
Plus they are saying there is only enough for 4 per household so if you "pick them up" how do they know you aren't getting more than your four? They are doing that for a reason...
01-18-2022 at 07:30 PM
Unfortunately this is the only option. Unless you have a PO box
01-18-2022 at 07:31 PM
I'm pretty sure the gov't has all our addresses already.

They are generally good for up to 6 months.
01-18-2022 at 10:24 AM
Assuming these are the Binnax kits, those expiration dates have been expired to 12 months

This is wrong. I have Binax that don't expire for another month

When Do Rapid COVID Tests Expire?
Rapid antigen test kits can only be stored for several months up to a year.

From 8 months to 1 year, depending on manufacturer, of course they have to be out of humidity, freezing conditions and moisture, right now is winter and severe cold in some areas so maybe some of them wil get bad in transport and give a wrong information

No, this is a rapid test (antigen) instead of PCR that needs to be conduct in labs.
01-18-2022 at 10:42 AM
Needs a PCR test
01-18-2022 at 11:09 AM
It really depends on the destination country you are traveling to. In my case, I used it to travel to Lebanon last month and it was accepted because Lebanon allows it given that you are fully vaccinated, and you still have to get a PCR test when you arrive at the airport.
01-18-2022 at 11:58 AM
Definitely depends on your destination.
Just went to/from Jamaica and rapid antigen tests got us both there and back.
Don't be fooled/scared by the "lab" requirement/terminology. Even a rapid antigen test can be "certified" by a lab. The key is that some official (likely certified) third-party (lab) has to be responsible and vouch for the results, as at-home tests can be easily faked (or innocently just done wrong).
In our case, did CVS to get results that allowed us into Jamaica, and the resort administered test the day prior to our return. Both were rapid antigen - which is almost the only option since most PCR labs are so backed up and slow.
I believe that when the US switched to requiring negative test within 1 day of return, they had to relax to antigen, as same-day PCR would likely mean nobody could come home :O.

You need a written lab test result and it doesn't have to be PCR ,it depends on the moron that asks for it and acts like they know what they are doing, went to Europe, US didn't ask and coming back had a PCR result that never arrived at my email and did a rapid test at airport, not PCR

30 minutes results / no lab needed / rapid antigen at-home tests, not PCR

This is just the initial phase, a beta test if you will, so right now it's 4 for the month of January, regardless of how many people are in your household. If the program is deemed a success they will most likely adjust it in the future.

Yes. They are rapid tests, lateral flow tests, that are administered at home and results within 15 minutes.

Interesting that you can find this link just Googling for "usps covid tests" but the official government website [covidtests.gov] still says it is not available until tomorrow. Typical. laugh out loud Thanks and repped.

Oddly, for me and at least one other person, that page says "Order your tests now so you have them when you need them." and has a button to "Order Free At-Home Tests" - the button just leads to the USPS page listed in the OP.

Weird. Wonder why that is. I don't see any link yet on the .gov website. Thanks OP for giving the direct USPS link. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

It isn't displaying an ordering link on the .gov website for some people (shocker), like me. Still shows "Ordering begins January 19." on my end.

The direct link https://special.usps.com/testkits works fine however.
