Probably better for the water supply to have vinegar in it than some chemical concoction too. Good suggestion.

Any appliance tech will say conditioner is terrible for your unit. Basically introducing oil into your machine.

I used to use vinegar but then I read that it can damage the gasket. Dunno if it's true. Either way I'd just assume skip coating my clothing in more chemicals. P. S. The only thing eco here is the supposed packaging not the product!

Bleach will damage the gasket not vinegar. However washing machines should have Viton or equivalent gaskets that work well with bleach. Honestly it shouldn't be an issue.
