There are 2 slots which are quite easy to access. The bottom is easier to take off than other consumer laptops I have upgraded before. There is also a 2.5" SATA bay and cable that can run a second drive in addition to the NVME drive.
This is an excellent deal, for anyone with modest multitasking / storage requirements or who is willing to open the case (or have someone else do it) for a cheap upgrade:

-Full HD Screen, often missing in $300 laptops
-Most recent (11th gen) i3, which performs similar to 10th gen i5 in most tasks
-SDD and ram are low, but not hard to upgrade if need be

You pay dearly for more RAM and/or SDD space. This is the sweet spot at the moment
Tempted to order using my Amex Business Platinum $200 Dell credit.

$309.99 - $200 Amex = $109.99

Didn't see that, but that's probably a major issue. Windows [x] s mode means that it's less than a fully functioning version; an often irredeemable and sometimes permanently dumbed down version if you will.

IOW, utter low-end garbage and probably just a step above chrome books, which are always best left in the dumpster google stores them in before sale.

YMMV
The s-mode is easy to switch out in a couple minutes - and that's including the time to google search "how to get out of s-mode".

This computer is far from useless even in its current state.

I'm sure everyone's sick of the "how does this deal compare to the other deal" question , but…

How does this deal compare to the Walmart deal? https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/690478

I have this deal waiting for pickup.

My understanding is the Walmart has a pretty crappy display (which doesn't bother me). Neither has a usb C that will allow a monitor. Walmart has better processor and ram (though ram can be upgraded here).

Overall Walmart seems better to me, but I know just about nothing about computers (of course it's also "considerably" pricier percentage-wise).

I need a new laptop mostly to run Amazon workspace and the most intensive software would be light video editing (mostly snipping clips to make a video, no special effects)

Thanks
What you link to is definitely better, at a higher price, but I have to say I HATE silver/light colored keyboards. I prefer the legibility of white on black keyboards in general.

From what I've read, permanently moving to full Windows mode makes these machines run like garbage, even with more RAM.

Is this a good option for someone that would primarily use it for web surfing?

Thanks! I keep reading that. Not sure why they continue to do that color combo.

I'm okay with it as I use a wireless keyboard at home and I'll make due once I have to go into the office.

It will handle that with ease.

In fact, I would say if you are a "light" or typical computer user who doesn't do "heavy" multicore tasks like compiling code, video editing, etc. you might wonder why you would pay more.

For a pleasant experience, you really need at least 8 gbs of RAM. Also, that 128 gb hard drive will fill up pretty quick. I'm not sure if this is still a good deal once you make these upgrades.
Fully Agree....
And Upgrading the SSD is not a simple task for many.

I would rather pay an extra $30-$40 and have 8GB and 256GB to start, which are my minimum recommendations for folks looking for intro systems.

This is such a good deal for a basic system, the screen actually isn't all that horrible. Might pick up just as a travel laptop so I don't have to lug around a $1200+ system.

Not sure about Windows 11 S, but I found Windows 10S inadequate b/c it could only run Windows Store apps. You will have all the MS apps, but third app support is not even on the radar for most companies.

You probably have an option to convert to full Windows, but 4 GB of ram is a bad idea on Windows. I used to have a old 4 GB pc and it chugged b/c it was constantly memory swapping thus lagging b/c modern applications on Windows like Chrome don't seem to be very well optimized for low memory setups.

Does this have windows? Even 8gb ram is pretty much obsolete with windows and half that nvme will be windows installation.

I get it, it's a cheap laptop, but if you want a functional windows laptop this isn't going to be a good buy

Edit: i see it has windows 11 s mode. Unfamiliar with that
S mode is locked down so you can only install Windows Store apps, but it's trivial (and free) to get it out of S mode. https://www.hellotech.com/blog/wh...urn-it-off

Me too, but we don't have an option for 256 / 8gb in this configuration at any price, much less $30-40.

Not that you want to do it more than necessary, but NVMe make memory swapping suck a lot less. At any rate, the choice is simple. Hold out for a configuration you aren't going to ever open or just accept that you will open it to make simple changes.

Where do you get this nonsense? "Often irredeemable and sometimes permanently dumbed down version"????

Switching from S mode to fully-featured Windows takes literally 10 seconds.

The only reason some of these laptops are shipping with the S mode pre-enabled is the low specs (specifically memory), so Microsoft wants to make sure only the apps that can run in 4GB are enabled.

You can switch out of S mode even if you don't upgrade the RAM, but $20 4GB stick from Amazon will bring it up to 8GB dual-channel, which is plenty.

With that $20 upgrade this "utter low-end garbage" will run circles around any top of the line i7 8th generation or older laptop. So if this is "utter low-end garbage", then everyone else's 3 year or older laptop is garbage as well.

Thanks OP. This will be perfect for my seven year old who has been saving up his Christmas money for a laptop. He plays a few online games. Nothing too graphic intensive or that would require a lot of memory. He's seven after all.

I'm surprised your post hasn't received more attention. This is a WAY better deal than OP's post because it makes the laptop more usable out of the box at minimal cost.
