The 5 kit size was pre-announcement. Remember it takes time to trickle down from a logistics perspective.

I'm sure in the coming months there will be 8 packs sold to help folks maximize their private insurance reimbursement. When that happens, expect a price increase of US sold kits to $12 per test which is the max of what most insurance companies will reimburse per kit.

For reference this was only $5 per kit before mid-Jan 2022. Be very skeptical of those who say the $5 per kit cost was due to a negotiation with the Biden administration to cap price at cost.

Here's a fact- while our US rapid tests pricing have more than doubled from $5 to $10 and soon to be $12 each, Europe and Asian countries still continue to pay less than $5 a kit.

For example the Abbott Panbio which is distributed in both Europe and Asia (but not US) costs SGD $4.75/ USD $4 each right now https://www.fairprice.com.sg/prod...k-13201080

Even this Target/ Costco Flowflex is still selling for SGD $4.90/ USD $3.60 each https://www.fairprice.com.sg/prod...k-13210515

The reality is that this is a great time to maximize profits if you are selling anything COVID related in the US market.

Price increase is simple supply and demand. Actually in the US case this is just purely a demand side issue (no issues with supply as there are tons of rapid kits being produced and sold around the world that's why there are no crazy prices in Europe and Asia)

Costco and other retailers should be selling these in multiples of 8 (or at least in even quantities) for monthly insurance reimbursment purposes

I don't understand. These are $10 at basically any pharmacy, you're saving $2 in exchange on the least accurate (70-75%!) rapid test. Do you really need 5?

I have Kaiser and their website says they need to be FDA approved in order to file a claim for reimbursement. Unfortunately these are not.

I work in the ED and frequently call patients back who are positive.
Don't hang your hat on these rapid antigen tests. approximate 20% return false negative.
Its better than nothing but I often see rapid tests come back negative and the standard pcr tests return positive.

Last, Omicron unfortunately does not care if you are vaccinated or not. Be safe!

Rapid tests are supposed to be used serially. Take two tests forty eight hours apart. Omicron does care if you're vaccinated because most of the dead are unvaccinated.

if you have the money for that, sure.
I see it with my own eyes, Omicron is infecting everyone. Vaccinated or not. Yah, majority are likely unvaccinated but it is surprising how many vaccinated patients I am getting. I encourage all to get vaccinated but even more, I encourage everyone to mask up and be safe.

Lol. It took me 1 minute to get it online through the government's website . They don't even ask you for your insurance.

Stop spreading misinformation.
Took 1 minute to fill out the form. Let's see how long it takes to get it to your mailbox.
