Just my 2 cents as an adult trying to learn to ride this. Last month I visited my relative who bought a Jetson hoverboard for their kid. I had long been wanting to try it so I got on it in their basement with concrete flooring. I would say that I have a decent balance but learning a whole new way to move does take time as an adult. I made two attempts to ride it for a few minutes but did not gain enough confidence to be comfortable. Then I decided to try it the last time that day and a few seconds on top of it and I fell and injured my wrist. I spent a few days in pain and then an x-ray of the wrist showed I had a small fracture. Have spent over $700 on treatments already. I do not want to discourage anyone from trying this but please try to learn this in an open area and maybe start on something soft like an area rug placed on a solid surface.
I bought the Hover-1 H1 and returned it after 4 days. On acceleration, you could hear a rattling sound. On day 4, it malfunctioned and started spinning uncontrollably and threw my kid off. Luckily he only got a bruise on his foot. It cut my toe when I tried to stop it from spinning. I had to throw a blanket on it.
Got a similar one off aliexpress 1.5 years ago for 65$ shipped. Still working great.
Its the go to place for offbranded electronics as its likely coming from the same factory as what's being sold on walmart/amazon, but with a smaller markup.

Santa brought a Hover-1 board and it broke within 48 hours with no mis-use. It took *18 days* for them to respond to my support ticket -- to which they said "Oh, it's within 90-days, bring it back to the store". Lame.

So I've got a few of these now and it takes the average person about 15 minutes of practice before they find their balance point. Recommend starting on carpet and with a wall or something to help support you. Riding them on anything other than a perfect surface is asking for trouble (even your neighborhood). Super fun though and the little ones are crazy good at them (5 and 7 years old). 70 year old nana is getting pretty good herself. Everyone enjoys them. No injuries so far.

Safety first, my boy. Helmet, wrist guards, knee pads… especially when you're in the learning phase.
