Basically yes.
Actually no, it isn't. Check out the servings to cost ratio and the types of amino acids.

[Edit] https://www.sparknotes.com/health/aminoacids/summary/
This is a summarization to explain you need all types of amino acids to have a varied diet for proper function of the brain and body.
You can get too much and not enough for those who don't like to change things up. Problems could range from being heart attacks, nerve problems, all the way to schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

I was a fan of the previous flavor at Costco. I get this still because I use it, but the flavor might not be for everyone. It's a very sweet fake watermelon flavor. Not that you would have it on an empty stomach but if you do it will likely upset it.
Everyone's different, but I have been using this for years when training fasted (empty stomach) and have not once had an issue.

To be clear, I'm not talking about the product, just the specific flavor at Costco. I could take the previous flavor (blue raspberry, maybe?) on an empty stomach, but the watermelon one bothers me more often than not on empty.

Just to add my own n=1 personal experience, for what it's worth...

I've used LOTs and LOTS of different supplements over the years. Starting with white flood back in the day, some of the sketchy (basically legal speed) samples of products containing 1,3 dimethylamine, bcaas, yohimbine, d aspartic acid. Aside from pure stimulants a lot of it is just placebo. I can honestly say though I *personally* notice the effects of this beyond just the caffeine. I typically go with a 'less is more' approach these days, amino energy just works and I think it comes down to ON being strict with quality control and *actually* having effective doses of the ingredients on the label. I don't really buy other products anymore and the only other thing I use for preworkout is matcha with crystal light (highly underrated)

I wonder if it has to do with the added electrolytes, I know magnesium on an empty stomach gives some people issues.

I never thought of that - I (perhaps incorrectly, although I notice it with similar flavored pre's) assumed it was flavor based.
