Anyone have access to a Dell EPP to see if that works?

Single module 8gb? Or are they going cheap with 2x4gb?

It's really a shame they put a single stick of ram in there. I really feel companies massively undervalue RAM and don't understand how dual channel can provide an easy increase in performance.

I recently updated an hp pavilion laptop from 2012 with nothing but a samsung 860 SSD, a wifi6e compatible mini-pcie card, two sticks of Corsair ValueSelect DDR3 1333hz ram, and installing Windows 11. Runs like any modern machine. The RAM came last, one after the other, so I got to experience and appreciate how going from one stick of ram can boost a PC.

I actually prefer single dim when i buy so that i can add one which is often. usually it is more expensive to upgrade RAM from manufacturer than buy it from amazon or newegg and add it later.

I prefer the single stick from the factory so that I don't have to ditch 2 x 4GB sticks to upgrade to 2 x 8GB.

What are you going to do on a i3 that gonna need that much memory bandwidtha outside of gaming?

These OEMS are extremely price conscious. Margins in this industry are typically like 6%, and they all are constantly in a price war with each other. Apple is the only manufacturer with insane margins, and they get to double dip by profiting from software (app store/itune sales).

So there is a reason they cut corners like this. I wish they didnt, but your average buyer only cares about core count, RAM count, and brand names. They have no idea about dual channel or RAM frequencies or timings.

Apple also gets everyone, just about, to insta-buy Applecare... While still extolling the supreme quality of Apple products.

My personal prejudice is that Dell FHD screens suck due to being anti-glare, plus not enough NITS to power past the anti-glare. I own a 10th gen Intel Inspiron laptop that is very similar to this Dell "bargain" here. Same type screen. Dell has been on an anti-glare kick for ages. While HPs popular, less expensive models come in a 'diversity" of screens. Always check the HP laptop display specs carefully. Which HP makes very easy to find on the internet. Dell models are harder to pin down.

In fact, HP is the most informative via a simple internet search, on desktop and laptop specs. Monitor specs etc. Warning! HP does make errors on specs from time to time.

This is a straight to the landfill pile of garbage. It's basically an overpriced chrome book. Last year's i5s went down as low as $200-299 so why pay the same price for an i3?
