The line about having to be in high school or college to find difficulty in dropping 1K+ on something is what gave off that air to me. Other than my rent and used car I've never spent that much at once. Believe me I would love to and definitely spend that much cumulatively on various items but I've yet to make the kind of money that results in me having that kind of disposable income at hand. Cheers to those that do though

It's simple. Be born into money. How have you not tried that?

How is bulb life/noise/air filter compared to a lcd projector? I have a Epson home cinema 2100. Just wondering how much of an "upgrade" would this be?
It is a laser projector so there is no filter or bulb.

While I do agree with you that you'd have to look closely to tell the difference between 1080p and 4k on a 50" TV, when you blow up the image to 100"+, it's pretty easy to tell the difference with true 4k source material.
In order for the image to be indiscernible, from 4K, you would have to be 21 feet away from the screen at 1080P. For 4K, you would only have to be 9 feet away for things to look smooth and without any kind of artifacting. This is a sizable difference.

I'm assuming the "4K" is actually the faux 4K but again, I don't know how to determine that without asking. I'm not in love with it only being HDR10 and not HDR10+/DV/etc, but I imagine that's a whole different price range I don't want to get into right now.
This deal is 1080, not 4k.

A projector under 2 grand will probably be pixel shift and not "true". You can tell the difference by standing 2ft away from a 10 foot screen to observe the pixels.

oh wow so no extra noise then or dust problems. I'll need to start to look into this technology. Maybe the price will come down a little in the near future. Seems like big improvements over shorter bulb life, noise from fan, air filters.

Still... it is not 4k! Would much rather get a CHEAP 1080P projector and wait a year or so before picking up a 4k projector and you can always use a fire stick to get that Android TV experience.
There were deals on 82" 4k HDTV for $1200(LG)~$1300(QLED), and the 82" LG is still up for $1.3k at BestBuy https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-8.../6452993.p. $1100 for a projector that does 1080p doesn't sound like a good deal to me unless I'm missing something.

your p0rn playlist laugh out loud or your video conference with the dissidents. The ChiCom made Zoom pull the plug for Tiananmen Square Vigil in the middle of the session, because they can (they just passed the law that companies in China has to do whatever the party says, no ifs and buts, and screw their customer and compliance in foreign countries. Specifically they have to spy on their customers whenever the CCP asks them to). Activist Drew Pavlou got his email hacked in by Red China and the act of contacting him got the mom of a Uyghur's dissident in concentration/re-education camp https://www.theaustralian.com.au/web-stories/free/the-australian/anti-china-activist-drew-pavlous-em... [com.au]. Mad

In any case, nobody needs to connect their projector to the internet. Problem solved. For phones that had been through the hands of Red China's authority's reach, load it with 3rd party open-source firmware (or burn the phone if you are a dissident on CCP's radar)

Red Chinese smart TV have a history of spying on their users in Red China (there's no concept of privacy in Red China, at least not in practice):

Exactly my thought.
Why use projector at all when you can buy huge TVs?

What am I missing?

A projector might be more convenient given it's more portable than a 82" TV, but if I'm for that kind of portability (like sharing presentations or playing movies for other people), I probably don't really care about paying $800 more or downgrade from 4k to 1080p for a super long service life, extra brightness, extra contrast and color depth and less heat consumption. It just doesn't sound like I'm getting the bang for the buck for such marginal improvements. I can wait with other not so shabby options until the price drop.

A native 1080p (non-laser) projector is selling at $229
