I wonder how much money these people make (if any). Kind of makes me want to bang out a few episodes of some sub-par nonsense and see if it gains any traction.

Just perusing through them myself they seem really bad. Not worth the time imo

Some of these titles didn't exactly scream out "quality" but who knows. I typically enjoy scifi works so started Galatian Exchange, read a few paragraphs, and noticed the writing seems pretty amateurish. I'm more interested in receiving the $5 credit at this moment, and if it doesn't come at all, I probably won't even bother with this service. There are still plenty of great books I have yet to read or listen to, free from my local library.

I started reading a book because of this deal, but doubt this Kindle vella program will succeed. Book lovers want to keep reading and don't want to wait for next chapter to be available and pay as they go.

My thoughts: Not at all. Each chapter is just a short few paragraphs. I expected a lot better from Amazon.

I used my free tokens to get partway through a story. Another 200 tokens is $1.99 (1700 is $14.99). Waste of money if you ask me.

Interestingly, each chapter seems to cost a completely random amount of tokens. I got to chapter 17 before I ran out of free ones. Some chapters cost as many as 56 tokens and others as few as 6. Interestingly, when I didn't have enough tokens for the next chapter, it told me how many tokens I did have but did not tell me how many tokens were needed to view the next chapter.

This really seems like a waste of money. I bet you most of these stories end up put together and released as Kindle Unlimited books, probably the only way most of them ever get used.

It would seem this would be a free benefit they would include for Prime Members. I can't see anyone wanting to actually pay for this.

Yep. It would be one thing I suppose if they e-mailed it to us as they were written. I subscribe to a newsletter from one author and they e-mail infrequently with news about an upcoming book or something, and they usually have a small side story that goes with the series that they'll include a link to the next chapter. But it's free. And they are actually published professionals.
