Well, because people do all kinds of things on Windows machines that get people in trouble.

I think they were looking for the security of a Chromebook which is basically bulletproof for older people or just want to do web things without worry.

You know you are older when you slip into talking about MB. Some day they will make fun of us for slipping into talking about GB!!!

Weirdest thing about this is no USB-C. That omission seems the biggest deterrent but still seemingly good choice for the money.

Kind of terrible price. Intel i5 laptops were $249-299 a year ago. This is an overpriced chrome book.
Cmon man!

I don't use windows atm. I'm all Linux shop, occasionally I use windows vm on my Linux for using tax software. Do you recommend buying this or should I continue using my vm?
If I buys windows laptop it will be mainly used for some gaming like god's unchained or anything that doesn't require graphics card and probably for taxes once a year.

Is it possible to upgrade Ssd to 256gb on this laptop?
What I really like about Dell is they make their laptops to be flexible for upgrading. This probably has a 2nd slot either SATA or M2. They, also, use one 8 GB stick of RAM leaving open a 2nd slot. I bought one of these a few weeks ago. Mine had an AMD processor and touch screen. You can check the exact configuration by downloading their service manual for this particular module. Most all the Dell laptops we see here are Inspiron 15 3000. That is called the series. What is the model for this unit? The model is a separate number. Dell normally doesn't give the model number on their website page. The series designation doesn't tell you much. With the model number, you can download the service manual. The model number is 4 digits, i.e. mine is 3505. When you have the model number go to the following support link and enter it. This will give you most everything you want to know about this unit. By the way my unit could upgrade the SSD to 1 TB. I upgraded it to 500 GB from 256 GB. https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us

Interesting. Laptops like this were $1200 15 years ago then $500 ten years ago now down to $340? They just keep going down

Yeah, and when you put the $1200 in today's dollars, it's even more striking.

For $370, the HP from costco is a better deal as long as you are good with a 14 incher, for me, that was a plus

Two reviews that may help folks considering this one:

https://www.windowscentral.com/de...000-review [windowscentral.com]

https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/del...-3000-3505 [pcmag.com]
This is my issue with these reviews....

The Inspiron 15 3000 is everything you'd expect from an affordable laptop...

So an affordable laptop should have a weak CPU.... CHECK.
a small harddrive..... CHECK
8GB of RAM... CHECK
No USB-C.... CHECK.

So it hit all the things an affordable laptop should have today. BUT this is SD and we want something that you would NEVER suspect.

Such as this laptop.... (i5, 16GB and 512GB) for less money....
Walmart's Gateway Refurbished deal.

FYI, this will not output higher than 1080p if you connect it to an external monitor. If you poke around online, you'll find a bunch of angry complaints about the lack of higher resolution when connecting to external displays. Wasn't a big deal for my purposes, but folks should be aware of this limitation.

Ended up picking up the 4GB version on BF for $300. Kept going to a black screen, and when I added a 1TB Sata HD, the stability went to absolute crap. With 4GB it was dog slow, and when I added an 8GB module (total 12GB RAM) it was fast.

Ended up returning it because of the black screen / freezing problem. Had high hopes with a $300 laptop lol.
Just get a used business-class laptop.

The only i5 laptops that were $249 - $299 a year ago would have been used and several generations old.
Except the time Costco was selling those 14" HP laptops for $279 2 years ago that said i3 on the box, but due to a shortage of chips, they shipped with i5s.

Its on purpose. You pay for features. That's the commercial world of products.
