Well, because people do all kinds of things on Windows machines that get people in trouble.

I think they were looking for the security of a Chromebook which is basically bulletproof for older people or just want to do web things without worry.

Decent deal, turn off S mode and you have a perfect grandparent/parent Facebook machine that will last for a long time. Not sure why they are still doing s mode when processors have come a long way recently

Previous thread on 4GB version has more info (which is why the 4GB and 8GB versions shouldn't have had separate threads).

On the fence with this one--reviews on Dell site mention overheating and slow performance, yet it's unclear which specific models and configurations are being reviewed on the Dell site (e.g. 4 or 8 MB of RAM probably affects any perceptions of speed slowdown).

Anyone own this model and could comment?

8MB of RAM would definitely make it slow...

On the fence, would be perfect for my mom and her weekly zoom meetings with the family, but not many others.
Also, great Avatar. I have a 58 Sprite, a 59 Sprite (both needing restoration) and a 77 Midget.

Ended up picking up the 4GB version on BF for $300. Kept going to a black screen, and when I added a 1TB Sata HD, the stability went to absolute crap. With 4GB it was dog slow, and when I added an 8GB module (total 12GB RAM) it was fast.

Ended up returning it because of the black screen / freezing problem. Had high hopes with a $300 laptop lol.

These problems exist because sometimes Dell puts a crap software configuration on it. Apparently the McAfee is sometimes out of control and causes these issues. If you just uninstall McAfee the problems usually go away.

I mention the Windows reinstall to get rid of other bloatware. If you have no issues with doing a either or both of these, then this isn't much of an issue.

It generally is more secure, since S mode will limit software verified by Microsoft. It's still possible to give information away through permissions, but I'd argue if it is a Facebook and internet machine that you should leave S mode on.

Kind of terrible price. Intel i5 laptops were $249-299 a year ago. This is an overpriced chrome book.
The only i5 laptops that were $249 - $299 a year ago would have been used and several generations old.
