Direct Tools Factory outlet has the RYOBI 40V 21 inch Cordless snowblower and two 5.0 Ah batteries for $329.99 + 10 shipping if you don't have a store by you. I've been keeping an eye on their site waiting for this item to come in stock. Home Depot has this same package for $549.99, except theirs is new. I've never had a problem with a factory reconditioned item from Direct Tools factory before.

Thought I would buy this but decided to read reviews on HD first. They were bad, with about half giving three stars or less and many reports of device failure. Pass. Nonetheless, thanks for posting. May be a good deal for those not discouraged by the reviews. Correction...56 reviews are 3 star or less, while 86 are higher, so about 40% poor reviews.

I got this for $120 ($200-$80 for parts missing/damaged) via eBay, USED, and got it working in short order/$$.

The batteries I got were DEAD/BEAT TO HELL, but Ryobi replaced them under warranty.

I used this during a couple of storms, so far, and it works great AS LONG AS YOU GET THE SNOW AS SOON AS ITS DONE SNOWING. If it ices up, you are screwed, but normal snowfall upto 12" it will handle like a pro.

I'm assuming that the batteries that come with this will be "good" (vs the one's I got with mine), and that it wont be missing any parts, so this is a decent deal, as the batteries themselves are like $60+ on eBay.

I got mine as a "return" from HD, and have no issues with it now (Ryobi replaced the batteries, under warranty).

And if you get it from DTO, you get a warranty etc.

Picked one up to replace the one I bought a few weeks ago during a snow storm at full price. I'll return my home Depot display model and keep this one.

Looks like the one on Home Depot is RY40862 vs this one, which is 40860. Wonder what the difference is. They look identical.

For a unit thats fully intact, factory refurb with all batteries at 100% and no hassle, yes.

You CAN get the returns cheaper on eBay, from time to time, but there's no guarantee what shape they will be in, or what hoops you will have to jump thru, to get stuff replaced under warranty.

From a Home Depot Q&A about the handle collapsing under pressure (a lot of the bad reviews are about this):

" This was a problem with last year's RY408060 machine. The new RY408062NVM machine has redesigned those handle locks to be stronger. "

I bet they simply put stronger handle locks from current gen onto these.

I don't see why you couldn't get replacement locks and fix yourself. Shit I'd just use some epoxy and keep it fully extended in shed if it's terribly bad.

Gonna try to sell batteries for 200. I have 4 batteries already

Anyone have this particular model and can give some first hand feedback? Been looking to upgrade my crappy Snow Joe from Amazon and this seems like a fairly reasonable upgrade for the $.

I am a bit concerned about the reviews on HD that say you have to snow blow immediately after snowing, as it can't handle ice....wonder how much truth there is to that

That's pretty much the case with any of these single stage blowers with rubber augers.

A two stage with metal auger might be necessary for crusty icy conditions.
