I have a couple this purchased within the last 3-5 years at $6-$7 each. It works well. The design of the switch is to avoid plugging and unplugging. When you have more than one device, you need to trace each cable is for which device after unplug. With a switch, you just put a label on it or remember which port. I use it to turn off a webcam and a microphone whenever I don't need it.

I'm kind of a stickler for having my wires arranged properly and hidden from view. It triggers some sort of OCD tendencies when it doesn't look perfect. So something like this is perfect for me.

Look for a charger on ebay for 20 bucks or more or try for an OEM used one on Mercari

How would that be useful when you can just unplug it from the hub instead
What if you just want to turn off a subset of the connected devices?

Does anyone know of a high end version of this? I have this and it works great for my Blue Yeti mic. But my camera/Elgato Cam Link 4k would constantly freeze. That product seems to need direct access to a USB on the system.
Powered 0rico, Wavlink, or Ugreen work pretty well, but you get what you pay for, its going to be several times more.

These are awesome. Use it for gaming with my hotas and drives. Can turn off the hotas easy to prevent non flight sims from using them as primary controls and turn on and off hdds and usb drives as I need. No wear and tear on the ports or the devices usb connectors. It's awesome...

Less contact wear and tear problems to diagnose. Useful when you are testing to see which malfunctioning device that's causing your USBus go nuts.

Have had a few of these running for 6 months with no issues at all. Quality exceeded my (low) expectations and I've been really pleased. Good find.

This won't power a laptop. Get a used OEM (or new knockoff) charger from Amazon or ebay or wherever.

I think I've older version of this as it has a power input too. What's the difference between this and the one I have? Model # is same on both.

Does it disconnect all wires with the switch or only some of them? Anyone know?

For example, would turning the switch off protect a backup hard drive from a potential surge? Or do I still need to disconnect it?

Without power adapter it's of limited use. Bus powered hubs are only good for super low power devices. Most things will need power or you will have devices drop out etc

I got this on the last deal. I really like it.

I have my webcam, microphone, USB thumb drive, etc. plugged into it. I like that I can press the button and turn the power off certain devices as needed.

Example, my microphone stays on all the time, and has a bothersome glowing blue light. I like to be able to press a button and turn it off.

Also, having the physical on/off switches allows me to confirm these devices are turned off after meetings.

Sure, you could manually plug and unplug the devices. But once you get used to being able to leave everything plugged and and cords routed nicely, it's nice to be able to press the on/off buttons.
