I have a couple this purchased within the last 3-5 years at $6-$7 each. It works well. The design of the switch is to avoid plugging and unplugging. When you have more than one device, you need to trace each cable is for which device after unplug. With a switch, you just put a label on it or remember which port. I use it to turn off a webcam and a microphone whenever I don't need it.

I'm kind of a stickler for having my wires arranged properly and hidden from view. It triggers some sort of OCD tendencies when it doesn't look perfect. So something like this is perfect for me.

These are handy for 3d printers as well because the buttons only cut off the power not the signal terminals. If you add a raspberry pi with octoprint to an ender the USB will backfeed the screen when the printer is off. Its common to modify a usb cable to block the power terminals. this accomplishes the same thing and gives you some USB ports for other stuff for the RPi (webcam/etc).

used to be FAR from Newegg

if you want to play the "used to be" game, might as well really go for it:

Prices 1960...
Cost of a first-class stamp: $0.04
Cost of a gallon of regular gas: $0.31
Cost of a dozen eggs: $0.57
Cost of a gallon of Milk: $0.49
You realize you just totally validated his point right lol

And people were getting paid the same like today in those days correct.
For people like you we don't need IQ test, we just to listen to them.

Almost all external hard drives annoyingly lack a power button, so they're spinning full-time if connected (or bouncing between sleep and spinning irregularly). So this is a great way to add back that on/off feature we should have never lost in the usual dumbing down of hardware for stupid people who call tech support freaking out about their hard drive disappearing...
For storage like SSDs and HDDs, you should t be powering off until you cleanly unmount them or you risk volume or filesystem corruption that could also lead to data loss. That's probably why there is no power button on them.

Always make it a habit to eject the volume first before unplugging any HDD or SSD.

I wouldn't plug them into switches like these in case you forget you had SSD or HDD attached to them.

Very handy little device. Works great for toggling between headset and desktop speakers among other non-storage devices.

You are misunderstanding what he is saying. Their argument is Instead of having a power switch for each port in the hub, just unplug the device you don't want powered.

Their are other hubs like that, this may have use for some.
how many hands does it take to unplug a device vs pressing a button? And this also reduces clutter and wear and tear on the USB connectors/cables. Come on man, just buy one. These are only 10 smackers, don't be so stingy.

Honestly, this seems like like a product with a narrow audience most would want a usb hub with its own power supply, others would want this same item but with 3 ports and ethernet.

According to review questions, it has a jack for external power adapter. (5v, 2.5a?) Anyone confirm this?
Yes I bought one a few weeks ago, has a jack. Not sure what the best way to find a compatible power supply is though.
