Yeah, if you have to make two special trips out to rent and return, then the gas and your time makes a RedBox run make little sense.
However, if you're at the store anyway, or your daily commute takes you right past a Redbox, then paying $2 (or nothing) for a blu-ray rental is the cheapest way to watch a new release movie. Way cheaper than $6 for a streaming rental. Even better when they offer 4K blu-rays for $2.50 (vs buying it for $20+) but those are awfully limited.
