As a comment on the book — not politics— it is amazing how accurately this book predicts the rise of a political elite class (in all parties and all governments across the globe) . I suppose it's just the way human nature works — the people who make the rules think they should be above those rules.

Don't worry, this isn't one of those books teaching about American History prior to 1975. That is the stuff that is illegal to teach currently.
Pretty sure that history is all some people know, they narcissistically think the world revolves around a few southern states, thousands of years of history in countries around the globe however are a mystery to them.

Also, they don't seem to understand one side lost because it wasn't efficient labor at all, so taking credit for making the country is completely ahistorical, and so they are left to gripe that their academically refuted misinformation isn't being allowed to pollute the schools.

Anyways the lesson of Orwell was that those who think themselves free live in turn key authoritarian states, proven quite well currently.

on audible, one by ralph cosham has 29674 rating (release 1999
0while the one with May (2021) only has 395
I got the combo on Audible a few months back and liked May's narration but be aware that there were a few editing mistakes.

Yep in high school they still read it including life of pi, mice of men, etc

LibraVox had multiple high quality versions of this and thousands of other audiobooks for free

Edit: no they don't. They used to though.

Free here: https://archive.org/details/CompleteAUDIOBOOKAnimalFarmBYGeorgeOrwell

And multiple versions free on YouTube as well.

personal preference, but the guy reading the combo is just not good. The 1984 with Simon Prebble is excellent. It is $7 with the code, but worth every penny.

They live it in school, but doubt they read it from what I'm seeing. They just had a school in the UK slap a warning label on 1984 as it may contain "uncomfortable" content.

Explain why
This was supposed to enter the public domain in 2021. The Copyright was extended. not to the benefit of the original author or their family but to the publishing compan that owns the rights.

Having a system in which books enter the public domain is pointless when publishers can just lobby for an extended Copyright for a book that was supposed to enter the public domain. That doesn't even benefit the long-dead author or their family. Just so they can make an extra couple bucks.

I have no problem paying for a book if the money goes to support the author or their family. Or even if they sell the rights to a publisher, I'd still buy it. But this is a different case.

Honestly I agree with you but there is still a certain amount of irony present.
