Pulled this from my response on the Baldurs Gate thread:

Yes, close enough. I've played the Switch and Android versions, and STRONGLY prefer the tablet versions, vastly beats Switch for both controls and screen size.

While they did the best they could with clever selection wheels via the triggers, Switch controls are still very cumbersome and directly walking your guys around with the joystick is the only benefit.

Everything about the game and it's menu's were designed for mouse and keyboard, and a tablet touchscreen is just so so much easier to quickly navigate and issue commands just like a mouse, pinch to zoom in and out, use inventories, click and drag boxes around parts of your group, etc.

Lastly, and most importantly, you pretty much have to play the Switch version docked on a big tv screen, because the handheld screen is just way, way too small for that high isometric view and so much text to read. In handheld you have to make the fonts so big dialogue boxes take up half the screen and you end up zooming in on characters to see what the hell is going on.

I played maybe five hours on switch before giving up and buying the Android tablet version on sale for $5, and played easily 30+ hours traveling and on vacation on that one. iPad/Android versions 100% recommended over Switch, and they're usually cheaper with regular sales anyway.

My understanding is that the port has a new control scheme for the switch that has been very well received by folks that have played the PC version.

That said has anyone played both the switch AND iPad versions specifically that can comment on which they prefer?

I've played PC, Android, PS4 and Switch versions(I'm a suckered for these games) and I can that's the order I'd rank them in.

Switch version has some performance issues like when pulling up the map its a bit laggy or it can slow down when you're firing off a bunch of spells.

Honestly the biggest gripe for me is that inventory management is a chore with a controller.

Other than that they are all great and you should play them on the system of your preference and enjoy them.

Sounds like you *regret* playing this on the switch.

This has the same control scheme as BG1 and BG2 (elsewhere on sale).

I would recommend against Switch. The majority seem to indicate that it's WAY better than previous editions, but useless on the tiny screen, and still inferior to mouse and keyboard control.

If you have steam, you can get this on sale for about the same (at times) and play on the big screen in a better way.

If you'd offered me a million dollars, I would've taken that money.

At that point, I'd go for BG1/2 on Switch. I preferred them, and continguous 80 hours of adventuring with the same party. These are separate games. I know people swear by Torment, but I could never get into it. The other 3 I played through multiple times and enjoyed loads. I'd say if you are interested in wry Planescape humor, do this one. For a more traditional fantasy experience (and much deeper and longer character development) then go with BG.

I tried Switch and found it slow and difficult to remember the wheel commands. That said, either PS or Switch would be fine on a big screen if you weren't spoiled with a mouse.

You could consider iPad version and touch controls.

Pretty timely input. I'd been waiting a long time for a discount this deep for Switch, but I own P:T on PC and Android already. Silly to buy it a third time on Switch if I haven't even played it on those platforms.

So if we don't have it, never played it, is it a steal? I like Diablo type games, I just don't want to regret the purchase.
