I own this and it's good for powdery snow but anything slushy bogs it down quickly. Also the wheels leave much to be desired. Probably fine for most, but it's not always ideal for Minnesota winters.

I think the model everyone is getting is 40860, not the newer version.

It was difficult to move the snow but that was probably because I was pushing through at least 10 inches of finely packed (albeit fluffy) snow. I have a giant gas snow blower already and I got this so I could use it for the light snow days. I just hope the batteries last because I'd hate to have to buy those every couple of years or whatever.

Got mine yesterday and opened it today. The box was very rough, to the point where either FedEx or DTF used stretch wrap around the box. Still split the box at the edge and holes underneath. Very poor inside packaging also.

Found that the chute was busted up into pieces and some pieces missing and I only got 1- 5Ah battery instead of two. Even if I wanted to send it back the box isnt fit to put it in.

So far so good with mine, I ordered early, but it got delayed in shipping for 3 days, Same as everyone else, the box was open, beat to hell, with (what looked like) extra tape or wrap trying to hold it together. There were holes in the box and parts floating around.

Got it opened and out and it looked almost new. Like everyone else, the batteries were in their own boxes, the charger was in a plastic bag and the tool manuals (blower and battery) were just floating. The chute was also loose. Got it together and it seems to work pretty good. Batteries were almost fully charged.

I got the RY40806VNM model - which looks like the updated handle brackets.

So far, it seems like a good deal for me.

I ran it in the grass in 8" of now hardened powdery snow and it chewed it up really easily. Tomorrow I will hold it on for at least a minute and make sure it doesn't stop running like some people have noted.

I got the same model number as you and my handles won't stay locked.

Can anyone comment whether there is supposed to be a rubber or other scraper blade at the bottom of the blower? I think that part might be missing on mine.

I think mine has a metal scraper at the bottom.

Update, the guy doesnt know what's wrong w it at the ryobi Home Depot tool repair, hes sending it to a larger facility, the rep told me if the facility cant repair it or get replacement parts, they do all the paperwork on there own and send me a brand new unit.

hoping no one figures out the issue Lol. id prob get a new unit 62model in replacement. but its going to be a month to get replaced I assume

I wonder if they send me a new unit, if the new unit will include another set of batteries.... being a new box and all..

Got mine last week and the box was also beat up with holes on both sides, but not enough to let anything out. The handle turned out to be cracked on both sides where the safety levers are, so it is barely usable. It definitely it was boxed from the refurb factory but not sufficient for shipping. Nothing to prevent the unit from bouncing around or for all the weight to crash down on the flimsy plastic handle. I can even see a tumble throwing the batteries against the handle and cracking them.
I'll see if I can contact Ryobi about a replacement part since DTO already said they have no parts and the only recourse is a RMA/refund. The price is too good to send back though, so I might end up epoxying everything or something if I can't find a replacement handle.
The unit I received was the RY40860.

i live in Cleveland by the lake and i get SNOW SNOW, i bought this and it does the job, you just have to know what it is and take it easy and take your time. my problem is with the 2 defective RECON batteries that they sent me i used them once and both just wouldnt charge .....i know there is that stupid plug it, unplug it, replug it trick but fark that why should i have to do it 1 day after buying this........... so i called DTO and they are sending 2 NEW batteries but i guess what they call NEW could be 2 more reconditioned batteries lol............... but the blower .........blows fine.
UPDATE: since I was very nice on the phone DTO sent me two brand new batteries not reconditioned and I live in Cleveland and it just snowed 14in of heavy crap and I did my whole driveway from street to the backyard where the garage is in 25 minutes with this thing and only used half of the battery power this thing is awesome don't listen to anybody else..... I just came in from outside this thing is great.

Mine was supposed to arrive today but the FedEx tracking updated to say the item was damaged in delivery from the truck today and they contacted seller for directions. It was then returned back to the local site this afternoon with a delivery notice that it will be going back to the sender by Sunday. I wonder if it is due to the boxing issues others mentioned. I reached out to the direct tools customer service given that I have no clue what to expect now since it was a refurbed item that is now sold out (wrote after hours when I got home so no response yet).
So as an update, they did go ahead and just process a refund. I figured given everyone else's issues, I didn't want to take further chances on waiting another 10 days to end up needing to then wait on doing repairs. It took them an extra two days as going back to sender took even longer than originally listed. Refund receipts were sent to me but nothing posted yet as they did the usual "should be there in 5-7 business days"

same. I am in dayton ohio, just snowblowed the driveway and sidewalk, used my room mates 40v Kobalt, (WAYYYY WEAKER) than the ryobi in this thread, but it worked. we knocked the driveway out in 15 minutes. wish I had the ryobi but its being repaired. plows havnt even came down my road since this morning, I got stuck in the road backing out, couldn't even turn. lame.

cant wait to get a working snowblower though for next time.

this little single 40v Kobalt, I dont even think its brushless struggles. the battery is literally half the size of our ryobi battery. but it still did the job, I have no doubt the ryobi would of had 4x the power this had.
