They were actually not available for at least 2 months before Christmas.
I knew it because when I wanted to buy them, only indoor one was available at Costco.
So, finally I bought the renewed from Amazon before Christmas.
Now indoor is not available at Costco.

The renewed from THIRD PARTY has been this price for many months or a year.

I bought it just a month ago from Tech Union (one of the sellers, same price), it came with brown box with official Philips Renewed Label on it, so it's manufacturer renewed, not seller refurbished. It looks new to me, just like another one I bought in retail box (open box)

First it's not a light (some reviewers thought it's a light).
It's more than just a motion sensor, it's also luminance sensor and temperature sensor.
It can be used to control Hue bulb or any Zigbee devices with capable zigbee hub.

Other than turning on lights under a certain lux value (rather than fixed time or sunrise/sunset settings) when anyone walk by my yards and driveway, using Hubitat, I also use them as motion sensors to send me alert if anyone pass by when I turn on the alarm mode and temperature sensor for real outdoor temperature. You can be creative to control anything with those 3 built-in sensors
(e.g. some people put the indoor one in fridge to use the light sensor to sense if the door is open and monitor the temperature)

Why not use the sunrise sunset plus 10-15mins automation? What Advantage do these provide over that? Just curious.

Anyone have experience with "renewed" products? Saving $10 to take a gamble on a short warranty?

I just ordered one (refurbished). I bought a new one of these about a month ago - and it works great! I was able to connect it to a Smart Light Switch (WEMO) which fires off after 11PM until 6AM, turning on an external light when motion is detected. I use an Alexa routine to connect the Hue sensor to the WEMO light switch. Upon Hue Sensor detection, turn on the WEMO switch. No motion for 10 minutes? Turn off the light switch. Money.

So, I have been kicking around getting a second one for the backyard. Saving $10 sounds good - and I know what to expect, having recently bought the new one. Fingers crossed that the refurb works. HTH

Wondering the same thing but I believe it's because it is an outdoor motion sensor as well.

Hey I was wondering about something like this. So we have our kitchen light on a Kasa smart switch, we also have a bad habit of leaving the kitchen lights on. Is there anyway I can add some sort of motion detector to tell Kasa to turn off the Kitchen light if there's no motion for >5 or 10 min?

Renewed meaning they replaced some part of the device that wasn't working. Imo it's not worth saving $10 cause you'll never get it quite like it was fresh out of the factory

I have 2 of these renewed for about 3 months no issues. I wouldn't hesitate on renewed Hue products. I really cant see anything going wrong with these if you keep them out of direct weather.

But yes, new from costco is a way better deal if you have a membership.

I think, but am not sure, that this can be done through Alexa or Apple HomeKit. If a smart home hub works with both, you'll be able to do it.

What are practical applications for this? I have a few I could think of:
1. Trigger the lights for bird-watchers
2. Trigger the lights for possible intruders

If using other zigbee hubs, you can do more than lights. Control a smart valve to shoot water on intruder, trigger a smart relay to electrify the wire fence...
Also, as already said, it's also a light sensor and temperature sensor, e.g. turn on the heater on a smart plug when the temperature is low...

The cost to repair such low cost item is more than itself.
"Renewed" or "Refurbished" are usually just store return.
