If you have a Costco membership, it's available online. Two for $80, new. All day, everyday.

They were actually not available for at least 2 months before Christmas.
I knew it because when I wanted to buy them, only indoor one was available at Costco.
So, finally I bought the renewed from Amazon before Christmas.
Now indoor is not available at Costco.

The renewed from THIRD PARTY has been this price for many months or a year.

I bought it just a month ago from Tech Union (one of the sellers, same price), it came with brown box with official Philips Renewed Label on it, so it's manufacturer renewed, not seller refurbished. It looks new to me, just like another one I bought in retail box (open box)

First it's not a light (some reviewers thought it's a light).
It's more than just a motion sensor, it's also luminance sensor and temperature sensor.
It can be used to control Hue bulb or any Zigbee devices with capable zigbee hub.

Other than turning on lights under a certain lux value (rather than fixed time or sunrise/sunset settings) when anyone walk by my yards and driveway, using Hubitat, I also use them as motion sensors to send me alert if anyone pass by when I turn on the alarm mode and temperature sensor for real outdoor temperature. You can be creative to control anything with those 3 built-in sensors
(e.g. some people put the indoor one in fridge to use the light sensor to sense if the door is open and monitor the temperature)

Why not use the sunrise sunset plus 10-15mins automation? What Advantage do these provide over that? Just curious.

If using other zigbee hubs, you can do more than lights. Control a smart valve to shoot water on intruder, trigger a smart relay to electrify the wire fence...
Also, as already said, it's also a light sensor and temperature sensor, e.g. turn on the heater on a smart plug when the temperature is low...

The cost to repair such low cost item is more than itself.
"Renewed" or "Refurbished" are usually just store return.
I have a friend who does this for his chicken coop.

What are practical applications for this? I have a few I could think of:
1. Trigger the lights for bird-watchers
2. Trigger the lights for possible intruders
Have it set the brightness/color for outdoor smart lighting. Have the temperature sensor control the color of smart bulbs so you know it's freezing out/hot out without checking the weather when you get up. Trigger an outdoor camera to start recording (if you have 3rd party hub).

Hey I was wondering about something like this. So we have our kitchen light on a Kasa smart switch, we also have a bad habit of leaving the kitchen lights on. Is there anyway I can add some sort of motion detector to tell Kasa to turn off the Kitchen light if there's no motion for >5 or 10 min?
Unless you swap out your current switch with one that is motion sensing, you'll need a Kasa cam to set a motion feature up for your lighting. This product in the OP seems to be the equivalent for the Hue.

this Hue stuff is crazy over priced. if you need it on a time or basic dusk til dawn functions, they sell mechanical/ dumb sensors that do this for a whole lot cheaper. If you invested in the Philips ecosystem then that's a different story

You can, sure. But there are cheaper motion options out there than the hue.

My thoughts exactly. Never seen much point in these particular sensors.

They even build @ dusk and @ dawn automations into their own app, so this particular product I don't see much point in... that being said yes all their shit is rather expensive. Random sales and black friday is about the only time I ever get anything, but they are quality lights with quality color and/or white/warm light. Took me probably about 3+. about 4, years to get my setup to where it is today and I have about a dozen bulbs, a fair chunk of them colored, as well as some motion sensors and dimmer switches for some custom automations I've made in Home Assistant.

I can vouch for the quality at least. They just look GOOD and work well. And in my ~4 years of building up my Hue ecosystem out of several + of their products that I've had, I've only ever had one bulb "die" on me, and it was promptly replaced for free by Hue. Sometimes it's worth shelling out a little extra when the results are pretty consistently solid imo.

I use outdoor lux to control if certain lights will turn on or not during the daytime depending on natural light in that room.

Some days are cloudy or raining and I can automated lights to go on based on motion and lux. So if I walk into a room and the lux is above a certain level the light does not go on because the natural light in the room is enough. I have two lux sensors on the east/west sides of the house and allows all rooms to be controlled like this.

Its great on rainy days, basically I never have to touch any lights in my house or use voice, they just come on when I need them based on my family's schedule and habits.

If you want to truly automate things you need to use many triggers, motion, lux, time, etc, otherwise its not "smart" lighting.

The main advantage in that scenario is energy savings. Instead of leaving all my outdoor lights on all night, they turn off at 11pm and then if there's motion they turn back on for a short period of time.

This is good for intruders, but that's not the only scenario. If I let the dog out late, they turn on for him. It's also great for us... if we come home late then it will turn on our outdoor lights as soon as we pull into the driveway. I've got several of these around the perimeter of my house and if any one of them senses motion then it turns on all my outdoor lights. Some people say the Hue stuff is overpriced, but they've been very reliable and certain models in the hue lineup actually form a mesh network to make it possible for me to have one of these operate reliably at the end of my driveway even though the hub is very far away from there.

I would not mind sunrise/set as I have it at 40% but adding if motion detected pop to 100% and maybe an additional set of lights inside. Or change color, sound alarm depending on where (inside garage is diff than back yard), etc.

Some lights make sense for dusk to dawn and some dont imo. My accent lighting is set to be dusk to dawn, but that's about it.

I don't want my front door lit up all night, so I use a motion sensor. I don't need the spotlights that illuminate my driveway or back yard on unless there is motion. I don't like to have my deck light on unless there is a need for it. I have several grills and smokers on it and it's just not overly attractive to have lit always at night.

But I have an autoslide automatic back door and want the lights to turn on for my dogs. I tried a door contact sensor, but it didn't quite control things the way I wanted but works great in conjunction with the motion sensor.

Then you add the lux sensor and that allows your motion lights to only turn on if it's whatever degree of darkness you choose.

There are also some ways to implement security for folks who feel the need for it. I could have one of my bedroom lights flash blue if I'm set to sleep mode in home assistant and get motion in the back yard. Then go red if motion hits the back door. Green for front door, garage, etc. Or have Alexa verbally alert me of where there is motion, and with the right logic, the direction it is headed. If you have an integrated surveillance system you could even have it pull up the correct camera on your TVs, tablets, etc based on what motion sensors are triggering.

Search for zooz motion sensor. Price normally goes for $30.
