1200 or so for a 9 channel receiver. This product doesn't make sense. 600 or even a 1000 in speakers and then spending 1200 on a receiver is absolutely backwards. The majority of your home theater sound budget should be spent on speakers. The greatest factor in your sound.

Well, technically it only requires a 9.1 unit, as there's only 1 subwoofer...

Edit: Please add Costco to the title, as you have to pay for a Costco membership to be eligible for this deal...

So basically the front left and right and the rear surrounds left and right speakers have another speaker built in them.
Those built in speakers are the (4) in the end of 5.1.(4).
They are designed to point up to the ceiling and reflect the sound off of it to simulate the "Atmos" sound.
Ahhh, gotcha! I didn't even notice that in the picture. Thank you! Smilie

Little bit of apples and oranges there
Receivers are not being discounted like they have been in the past...while speakers still are
So if we ever get back to "normal" discounts, you should be able to buy a 9.2 receiver for about the same price as these speakers

There were receivers like the Pioneer LX503 " pre pandemic" priced at $599, that were 9.2

Well the probably is the shortages in production of 9.2 receivers. With limited availability the price is sky high now. the Denon x3600h was $799 and the Denon x3700 was something like $899, now its around $1500.

My buddy got an Onkyo RZ630 9.2 receiver only 3 years ago for $399 before the pandemic blew up. I was also able to buy a Denon x4500 for under $700 back then.

Hopefully when production ramps back up the prices will drop again.
EXACTLY!!
At the prices you listed above from that past, you could resell those used today and make a profit
Its crazy

Found a 9.2 receiver on amazon for $800. Yes, it's a 2019 model, but it's also half the price of every other 9.xx receiver I've found

5 dinky plastic speakers and a 10" sub for $700 is not my idea of 'Discounted'.

If someone doesn't have the budget for a decent atmos set-up, they're better off going with fewer channels and stick with good quality speakers, IMO.

But since marketers are slapping 'atmos' stickers on everything now; soundbars, headphones, laptops and even cell phones, there must be suckers out there buying them.

Do you think any 9.2 receiver these days is " discounted" versus 2019?

I think a post covid world has completely changed the dynamic of receiver prices
I literally could see a couple of 2-3 year old receivers I have right now for at least what I paid

As for brand new you pretty much pay MSRP for a mid range Denon/Yamaha/Marantz receiver
That was never the case before with receiver deals at 40-50% off MSRP

On the other hand we still see discounting on speakers

The dynamic is different in a post Covid landscape

Guys, you dont HAVE to run this in 5.1.4. You can just not run the rear height and get a budget $300 7.1 receiver, and run it in 5.1.2 and still have a pretty great sub 1k setup. Then later on in life, upgrade to 7.1.4.

Costco now has a $250 off manufacturer's coupon. Brings the Klipsch Reference Cinema speakers down to $599.99. $250 manufacturer's savings is valid 1/27/22 through 2/13/22. While supplies last. Limit 3 per member.

Interesting. Do you think there is much benefit to doing this instead of saving $250 and getting the 5.1 version? https://www.costco.com/klipsch-re...92734.html

Like, are the speakers any better, or are you only gaining those two up-firing channels?
