This is Bluetooth mouse that also work with Unifying compatible wireless devices.
And Logitech MX mouse is supposed to work on any surface include glass and high-gloss surfaces surface which many other mouses won't work.

Logitech MX anywhere earlier version use 2 AA battery and now Logitech switch all MX device include "Anywhere" Mouse to rechargeable internal battery.
There is Pros and Cons of rechargeable vs replaceable battery so depend on how you feel if the newer version of MX Anywhere mouses is upgrade or not.
Worth pointing out that Logitech is moving towards sunsetting the Unifying receiver in favor of the Bolt version which supposedly fixes a major security flaw with the original unifying receiver.

If the MX Master 2S has been $50 recently, is this worth $40? I understand that one is a desktop mouse and the other is a portable size.

I have first-hand experience with the Master 2S and believe it to be a great deal at $50 and much better value than the Master 3 @ $99.

Solid mouse! 4000 dpi laser sensor can be used literally on any surface.
Across wheel has 2 options, either the infinite scroll or standard scroll.
Best portable mouse. Solid battery life, I haven't charged now for about 4 months!
Not sure what is different from Anywhere 3, which is about 75$…can some expert chip in?

Agree with this comment. Had this mouses for years. the best to-go(travel) mouse. compact size, yet still comfortable to use. very precise tracking. Paired it on both my Windows & Mac.
It support 3 device at same time with easy switch.

the ver 3 has usb-c for charging, battery last longer ....very hard to improve on already almost perfect laptop mouse.

For this version, the middle mouse button is a discrete button below the scroll wheel, whereas clicking the scroll wheel will toggle between smooth / notched scrolling. For version 3, they changed it so that it behaves like most mice, where clicking the mouse wheel is middle click. And the discrete button changes the wheel mode.

Also for version 3, it seems like the side mouse buttons (forward and back) only send on pressed events, whereas in version 2, you could hold them down and it would continue sending the button held event. This is only noticeable if you assign these buttons in games.

I have the 3. I chose it because it's lighter, and has a lower click-latency.

Which means I can't blame it when I get shot in the head.

(Admittedly, I'm not good enough for it to really matter.)
