I've had two packages stolen from my front door in the last month. I have a security camera but it doesn't help with locating this individual. Can i use one of these to catch them? Will it save the step by step (gps history) in case they see the tracker and toss it? I want to find out where this guy lives so i can report him to authorities. Any help is appreciated.

You would need someone with the app near the Tile.
The way this work is that any phone with the app enabled can help the owner detect it. (They won't know. You have the option of sending them a thank after you've found the Tile).

Note: I have not use Tile in like 2 years now. There is no reason to due to the pandemic. So the following statement may not be correct. The re-connecting distance is different than the advertised range. Once it's out of range, you have to be much closer to reconnect.

24000+ reviews, this looks great, I lose things a lot, but what I want to know is, how long is this standby time, and does it need to be replaced frequently?
don't get these. Tile seems to use "time based" battery level indicator which doesn't seem to measure the voltage to get an accurate battery level. I've had many Tiles simply run out of battery without ever being notified because I was probably using counterfeit Sony cell batteries that held little charge. I've lost keys before where I couldn't ping because the tile ran out of battery without ever telling me.

Get AirTags. Way better.

You're missing my point. ANYONE can install the Tile app. Not everyone has Apple devices. Airtags are also restricted to only Apple devices with iOS 14.5 and later, so that means iphone 6s/ipad 5th gen and newer are the only Apple devices capable of pinging Airtags. The large Android population (and note, free government phones are all androids) can ping Tiles from any firmware version. Apple population can only ping Tiles from iOS version 13 and later. There is much more compatibility for Tiles than Apple Airtags, and that goes without saying Samsung Galaxy Tags as well (which require Android 8+).
how much of the population allows Tile to track them? i disabled background location services when I owned a tile.

with iPhones, it's on by default. i don't even know off the top of my head on how to disable location related services for airtags.

and you're wrong. Macs are also included in the network. there are about a billion devices part of Apple's find my network. Tile says they sold only 35 million devices.

These things go through batteries. Tile does send you the 1st round of replacement batteries but you're on your own after that.

Apple air tag works better than this. I have the title on my dog, barely ever able to ping it and not even accurate. The air tag pretty much pinpoint my dog when he ran out the door under 3 to 4 seconds and the location is super accurate. Also, the air tag can point you to it location with an iPhone. My primary phone is an android but i register all my air tag to a cheap iPhone mini and use it as a radar.

If you're considering this you either can't afford an iPhone or apple ecosystem or you willingly choose not to join the ecosystem, the air tags and apples infrastructure are superior in each and every way, literally no contest. iPhones are basically all mini gps devices, and when you click into that network apple wins hands down. Steve Jobs you were a visionary and i miss you more and more everyday.

Tread lightly with Tile. They were bought by Life360 and they have a very questionable history with personal privacy. I'm sure it's just the tinfoil hat restricting blood flow to my brain, but I dumped my Tiles.

Depends on the quality of battery you put in there. The original Panasonic batteries they had when I first bought them lasted 1 year. I bought these from Home Depot and they last 6 months.

If you have your phone ping them often, they will use battery sooner.

As an aside, the Tile app also excessively consumes my phone's battery. I am using S21 Ultra and the Tile app is reported by device care as high battery usage with only 2 minutes of background activity, 0 minutes of active use.
The tile app is pretty obnoxious. I turned off notifications and background use for it and now it seems ok. They really want to push you into their $99/year subscription at any cost. The tags are fine otherwise. Especially the ones with replaceable battery.

Like many others here, I had Tiles and they were mostly ineffective due to the fact that the Tile network of users has to be near your device. It never worked when I needed it. I went with Airtags last summer and they are awesome. I put one on my son's bike when he is out and about and on my dog's collar. They aren't 100% effective, But there are millions more iPhone users out there than people with tile apps open on their phones.

I have 3 tiles (w/ fixed batteries) due to die any day now and no plans to replace them (Didn't even get mad when dog chewed one of them). Limited usage. I put mine on a couple of remotes and whenever I ping them, the sound seems to come from everywhere, Kids have fun chasing the sound though. Airtags on the other hand are great! You see distance to the tag and an arrow that points which way to go. On a recent trip, I put an Airtag on the dog and in our luggage. We had fun seeing the dog's airtag left behind in our home state and on the way back, seeing that one of our bags didn't make it on our flight. Airtag showed active across the states and never lost connection.

I pulled out the oldest trick in the book. Ordered the Tile 4 pack from Best Buy. After delivery I got on chat and said I only received one. So they gave me $25 refund. 4 Tiles = $40 - $25
Not a trick, it's just lying to steal.
