Some of these 2TB Sandisk Plus have been changed to QLC memory

https://www.reddit.com/r/NewMaxx/...lus_wdram/

Nowadays, you need to at least damage the packaging to see what it is:

54-99-27114-2T00 -> China TLC
54-99-27115-2T00 -> Malaysia TLC
54-99-26533-2T00 -> China QLC
This drive is very bad. I purchased one for about the same price. The read/write speeds are terrible, crystalmark gives me realistic peak speeds of ~150MB write and my real world usage is closer to 100MB, This drive is slower than a spinning disk for data backup.

edit: for further reference, this drive is slower than my 10 year old Samsung 256GB SSD

Just buy a spinning disk drive for cheaper or pay a few bucks more for a better SSD
The synthetic benchmarks don't tell the whole story. Get one of these drives, format it to a standard NTFS or similar file system and then start moving files around. It's about spinning disk speed and sometimes slower. Google for real world performance of the SSD PLUS series of drives and you'll see a lot of people saying the exact same thing.

apparently Sandisk's newest iterations of these drives are the slowest in the lineup as they made changes that severely impacted 4k read/write and 2mb random write speeds. Kind of a bait and switch.

I use one of these for my Plex transcode temp directory / user requests dump. Not the fastest out there, but gets the job done without issue.

Hmm my laptop has a 2.5 ssd slot and an m.2. Need to upgrade the storage for games. Should I get this or is it worth it to save for a faster m.2?

For games I don't think it will matter much, I would use this for games and the m. 2 for apps

the benchmarks seem to show a lot better than what you are posting but in reality, if you are using a SATA drive as your main drive your real bottleneck is the SATA

Still waiting to replace my 1TB NVMe SSD I bought four years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer at 1-2TB kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 8-128TB.

Digitimes: Samsung new NAND flash capacity coming online in 2H21 may worsen price falls.

Everyone has been brainwashed to eat these high prices because xyz reasons. It's easier and cheaper to print ssd NAND memory than make a hard drive yet you don't see those staying stationary at 1-2TB for the past 4 years.

Capacity of the drive depends entirely on your use case. I have a ton of active users so I keep all of their requests on this drive separate from my main, personal library. Transcoding really doesnt take up that much space considering the temp file deletes itself when the file is done. I personally would rather this cheap drive get crushed with those nonstop writes rather than my OS nvme drive.
