As I mentioned I literally don't like my ears totally blocked by ear buds.
My use case is mostly used in the gym, biking and jogging and for that purpose I don't want my ear blocked completely.
I'm not sure what phone you were using, but for me the absolute *worst* Bluetooth performance (i.e. cutting in and out w/ phone in pocket) has actually been with my old phone (which I have repurposed as a 'podcasts' phone, since it has a 64 or 128gb microSD card in it)... a Samsung Galaxy S7.
(you'd think it'd be better, with them being 'made for one another', but no; if I had to guess, I'd say it had something to do w/ the older BT radio and/or receiver in the phone)
It's absolutely crystal clear when connected to my current phone (Google Pixel 4a), or to the iPad that I've been issued through work.
And it's also great when connected to the car stereo's Bluetooth, though that (admittedly) probably isn't a very tough test.

This isn't scientific, but... I would love for someone to give me 10-20 phones and 10-20 pairs of these Galaxy Buds Live, and to be able to go through and test each and every combination/permutation.
My sneaking suspicion is that it's somewhat-to-highly dependent on having a good phone-bud pairing (more so their respective BT chips/whatever), and *possibly* confounded by the possibility that maybe the QC in these buds isn't the greatest, so sometimes you just get 'a bad one'.
