Right.....because the jobs like doctors, lawyers, pretty much any science field you can just walk in and get with a hs degree or just experience. But higher ed is becoming worthless. Just like some people can do well in trades, and we need those folks in those jobs. We need educated people in specific and specialized jobs

Nah, its just the self taught developer crowd who make assumptions. They don't know how little they really know, but if you can get paid well by mastering a small subset of computer science then good for you. Like you said doesn't apply to most other fields.

Right. which is why the IRA is in my name. And educational expenses are a qualified reason for early withdraw from Roth IRA

I'm very familiar with 529 rules. 529 is more appropriate for many more families.

1.28% return on my kids 529 plan last year.
12.35% return on their IUL.

Meanwhile the S&P 500 returned over 28% last year so it looks like your IUL trailed significantly. You can invest in a low cost 529 and select and index strategy which will provide you with a return much closer to the actual index returns.

Are there any good accounts out there for a 2 and 5 year old?

If you figure out a good option I would love recommendations as well . Obviously my 3 year old doesn't need a debit card for a couple more years

If your 529 did 1.28% for 2021 you seriously need to look at the allocation and make some changes. Sounds like it's in all bonds/fixed income or something. Or if you child is in college or starting very soon the target date fund may have adjusted to bonds/fixed income. More understandable in that case.

Sounds like you made some terrible fund choices. My kids' 529 was up 28.5% in 2021 and I didn't even put 1 penny into it during that period. If you're only getting 1.28% and 12.35% during a year that the S&P500 was up 28.8% then you should rethink your choices. Also rethink giving financial advice to people on Slickdeals when you can't even get half the returns of the S&P.

Why even make it optional? My 11 yr old has had one (savings acct) for 7 years now... he knows that for Christmas and birthday money he spends half and saves half. He's got over 2k at this point and knows he can't touch it till he starts driving... even then it'll be emergency need only. Though we did give him alot of the money we got for him from stimulus money. His 4 year old sister is doing the same thing. Need to move them into money markets or something but I'm not overly worried about it.

What I did is do a savings match for college fund when they were growing up. I figured they would get the money from me during college anyway so when they were growing up whatever they deposited, I matched. Worked out well but did get a little expensive for me during high school summer jobs.

You need to fire your wealth manager :-) last 2 years were some of the best years in money market and you should have been above 20% if the mix was good. Less than 20% seems bad choices.

If I read the offer correctly, it stated one per household?

529 is good. If you want something more liquid, do a research on custodial accounts.
