Why even make it optional? My 11 yr old has had one (savings acct) for 7 years now... he knows that for Christmas and birthday money he spends half and saves half. He's got over 2k at this point and knows he can't touch it till he starts driving... even then it'll be emergency need only. Though we did give him alot of the money we got for him from stimulus money. His 4 year old sister is doing the same thing. Need to move them into money markets or something but I'm not overly worried about it.

Excellent savings plan. Have you ever considered however that the cash saved is losing a lot of buying power over those many years. You could buy bonds or a savings vehicle of some kind, if the money isn't being touched anyhow, would save more then the pittance the banks pay.

It's better than not saving.

Although had that money been put into voo or another S&P 500 etf, it would have returned roughly ~120% in the last 7 years adjusted for inflation. Imagine what it can do given another 5+ years? 10? 20?

Edit; I understand not everyone is comfortable putting their money into the biggest casino on Earth aka The Stock Market.

I opened this up and have been waiting for a text about creating a username and password but my son never got one. I got a few texts about the account creation, and about downloading the app. How did you guys create a username and password for your kid?

I have. i was kicking around buying the i bonds. but like another person said, its better than nothing. Plus this is just for them to have as a starter savings emergency fund. Its intention is not to build a crazy amount.. but I get you.... Since it'll be there for a while i should move it to something that it'll at least be working for them while it sits.

Useful for teaching my son about weekly OTM Spy calls. Kid already lost his entire allowance. Guess who sold him the calls?

Can you apply for option access with the teen account? If so, how old was your teen and what did you/he answer for the experience questions? I am guessing that it is only level 2 and no margin possible. Correct?

Thanks!

So you gave him free money. He gambled with it and you were the house and took it back? And you call this a success? Just don't give him money if he's going to gamble. The only winner here is fidelity for taking a commission on the trade. You actually lost money since you have to pay capital gains for taking your own money back.

Each adult account holder can get max one $50 bonus. Best way is to have your partner and yourself do for each of your kids separately.

I opened two accounts, one each for my two teenagers and they both received the $50 bonus. Each account was opened under my account so it looks like you can open as many accounts as you'd like provided you have children in the proper age brackets.

Sorry I was a bit confused. Did you mean to say: you have two kids; you by yourself opened two accounts for yourself; each of your accounts opened two youth accounts for different kids; each kid got a total of $100 bonus, one $50 from your #1 account, and an additional $50 from your #2 account; and hence your two kids got a total of $200 bonus? If so, that was... lucky I have to say.
