#1. Anyone know if tax will be complicated?
#2. Will this affect FAFSA once they apply?

The money you give to your kids / transfer to their accounts are considered gifts, same manner like you give a $20 bill to your kids for after school snacks. As long as the annual total amount is below a threshold (I believe it's around 16k per parent per kid) nothing is needed during tax season.
As to FAFSA, I'm not sure about it but common sense tells me it would be similar to gift tax -- it all depends on the total amount.
529 is for educational purposes, a custodial account is for anyone under 18 and does not need to be for school. Just remember taxes. Could also look at a Coverdell for educational purposes that allow to to trade stocks vs funds 🤔 please seek an advisor for help finding the best for your situation
Documents you need
To complete the application process, you will need 2 forms of acceptable documentation to verify your teen's identity. Why do you need this info?
Your teen's Social Security card OR a copy of the first page of your latest filed 1040 tax return. This document should have your teen's name and Social Security number (SSN) clearly visible.
An unexpired document with your teen's name (state-issued driver's license, passport, birth certificate, or student ID card).
Get your kid to download the app and make an account. Just follow the instructions basically but disregard anything about them giving you a notification.

I had to create an individual trading account in order to transfer money to my teen's account. I got a $100 bonus for opening it in addition to the $50 in teen account.
:'D
I've had a Fidelity account for a long time, ever since getting their 2% rebate credit card. I like Fidelity a lot and if it weren't so much hassle, would move my Vanguard money over because I greatly prefer the Fidelity website and account reporting interface.
