The bulkier books are not that easy to handle when a kid starts turning pages for the pages on their left, if it makes sense. Plus thinner ones are easier to carry around during travel, and also lighter in their backpacks if you make them carry their belongings in their backpack while going to grandma's etc.

Licensed content aside, is the page quality of the book similar to the dollar store coloring books quality? I find those too thin and prone to tearing during the handling of a toddler or even a preschooler. Thanks.

These hold up well for my 3 and 5 year old. No issues with tearing

Seems like this might be the standard price at Target? And there the 288-page books at $4.99 look like a slightly better value.
