Update on my experience: I installed this on Friday. For reference, I have Spectrum gig internet plan, 2 story home, main router upstairs, satellite downstairs, doing wireless backhaul.

1. Setup was crazy easy, by far the easiest I have experienced among Mesh routers like Asus and Orbi. I was up and running in about 5-10 minutes. No false starts or restarting from scratch needed to get it working out of the box.

2. Speeds were not as fast I expected, but definitely among the fastest I have tested. Using my iPhone 13 Pro, I was able to get a top speed in the 600-700s right next to the router at first, but would usually average 400-500s. Was never able to achieve higher than that. Speeds were really inconsistent so I would sometimes get as low as 200-300s right next to the router or around the house as well. Hard to tell if it was the router or my ISP. The deco app did not have an option to test the internet connection from the modem to the router.

3. Similar issue with the satellite unit. I have a PC connected via ethernet to the satellite. When first started up, I would reach close to the 1gig speeds, But then for some reason, later I would only get half of that usually around 400-500s directly connected. Same for my wifi devices connected to the satellite, but sometimes even lower at 200s. Not sure if this is due to the dynamic backhaul switching bands possibly?

4. Dealbreaker for me was that my nest cameras would constantly disconnect. Similar problem I had with the XT8s.

I was looking forward to this system, but for my experience and purposes, it did not work out for me. I hooked up my Arris Surfboard mAX AX6600 (2 pack), and everything just works again and will probably keep it. I have more stable, consistent, higher speeds (close 600-700s; further 300-400s) than that of what I was able to get out of the Deco with wireless backhaul. I think the available reviews online (i.e. dong) tested it out when it first came out a year ago and it did not exactly wow anyone. But my guess is that firmware updates have improved it alot since, and from my experience, its working awesome and you get similar speeds from both the router and satellite.

If you want to check it out, here is the link. Its on sale for $299.99 and I think the sale ends today. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/arri...d=6443774. Also on amazon for same price too.

I bought this so will update with my experience after receiving it. From past posts and reviews, seems to be one of the fastest mesh (and even among stand alone routers) that can take full advantage if you have gigabit internet plans.

I'm upgrading from an Orbi RBK53s which has been stable and reliable. Just wanted faster speeds.

I've tried the following using wireless backhaul:
1. Orbi 753: couldn't even to get it set up initially out of the box despite multiple restarts and factory resets; got frustrated and returned
2. Asus XT8 - I liked the speeds when it worked. Sometimes it would take multiple tries during setup for it to recognize the satellite. Big problem I had was with nest cameras constantly disconnecting. Tried factory resetting, binding IPs, turning off 160 mhz channel, separate guest network, but still had that problem.
3. Currently trying out the ARRIS SURFboard mAX Tri-band AX6600 2 pack (on sale at Bestbuy and Amazon). So far I have been pleasantly surprised. Nest cameras working as expected. Average speeds are higher and more consistent compared to my experience with the XT8. Negatives are that it comes with only 2 Ethernet ports and are placed under the unit so my cables are slightly bent (will probably get right angle cables). Also there is no web interface and no real customizations or tinkering that you can do. However, it just works right now and giving me faster and stable speeds.

I purchased both.

The ax5700 is clearly the faster unit. However, the range did not work well in my house at all.

Switched to the 3 pack 3600 and the range is impeccable. However, the speeds are lower on paper but there is no noticeable difference in my daily activities (streaming 4k video, work etc).

connecting and naming devices is simple and easy on the deco app. great gui. i believe this model however, can have a lesser total number of devices connected (something to consider as seemingly everything is connected to the net these days). GL

In currently using a Netgear R7800 (nighthawk x4s) only because I can run it with OpenWrt, lots of features...
Anyone here know if the hardware on this has the potential to support OpenWrt? I think MediaTek and Qualcomm IPQ chipsets would be the best but I can't find the hardware info on these. Thanks

Seems like a lot of Mesh systems have this issue with Nest CAMS. I have a urlhasbeenblocked I'm trying to replace, but seems like this will do the same thing. Is there anything you don't like about the Arris? Are there other MESH systems that work with Nest CaMs

The Arris setup is a little quirky. I set up on an iPhone and you will get random error messages when going through the prompts. But if you ignore and just try again, it will go through. (I think it's the iOS security stuff that kinda gets in the way). With that said, I was still able to set up on first try.

The Ethernet ports are under also under the unit, so you will have some bend and stress on the cables unless you opt for a right angle down Ethernet cable. And you only get 2 ports.

And if you like to tinker and play around with settings, you can't do this with the Arris. It's a set it and forget it mesh. I do like that you could test the speed from the modem to the main router (the deco lacks this functionality).

Other than that, I was pleasantly surprised with the performance and stability since I've tried the well reviewed Asus XT8s, Orbi 753s, and this Deco. Was almost gonna go back to my old and trusted Orbi RBK53, but I think I'm gonna keep the Arris. I'll test for another week to see how it goes.

Anyone have this and not have problems with Nest CAMS? Sooo tempting to get out of the 6 SSIDs and 3 routers I'm using now. I have a 4 node urlhasbeenblocked mesh, the Fios G1100 and Asus RT68(TMOBILE) . Need FIOS and ASUS for nest cams cuz they drop on the mesh.

You probably should purchase it and find out, after it's from Costco so no hassle return.

I would, but a little bit of a hassle since I don't have Costco membership. Will have to get family member to buy and probably return if it doesn't work.

does anyone know if the two units can function as two individual routers for someone who doesn't need a mesh system ?
Also, does anyone use this and have issues with the Nest Hello Doorbell (Not the Indoor/Outdoor cams) ?

From https://dongknows.com/tp-link-dec...sh-review/

The two hardware units are identical. Each is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6 broadcaster. Use one as the router to connect to an Internet source, like a modem, and the other will work as the satellite that automatically extends the Wi-Fi network.

They are identical routers. Split them between houses, if you like.

How does this compare with the Linksys velop tri-band meshed Wi-Fi?
"Linksys Velop AX4200 WiFi 6 Mesh System "
Velops in general are very meh in just about anything when it comes to performance and reliability so no. In general though the performance is a huge difference between the two where TP-LINK will be better.

I know others have answered this but just confirming with them, yes you can use them as separate powerful routers. If you only need one give the other to a family member, friend, or sell it for a nice sum.

As for the nest issues, some do some dont... In general a lot of mesh routers and nest cams just dont get along becuase of how poorly NEST cams are coded.

Yeah the nest cams for some people work without a problem for others nothing but issues. The problem is with the nest drivers they dont do well with auto switching networks. What probably causes some of the issue is creating a wifi overlap where the device thinks its wants to switch between the two routers so it plays a game of jumping between the two when signals fluctuate too much one way or the other. The other issue off course is a nest cam cant decide between using 2.4ghz or 5ghz, its all in general bad coding by nest cause they did not plan on smart connect type networks.

As for the slower speeds on the Iphone 13 Max, people have nothing but problems with iphones in general when it comes to mesh it used to be a lot worse, apple codes their drivers to only use the 5Ghz which causes a lot of headaches. We had nothing but problems in my company with their laptops and our AP's... If you actually google "iphone 13 pro max slow internet" you will see tons of threads about it. The other thing to take notice is that your speed and your total bandwidth are different, while your getting 1Gbps of WAN speed from your ISP the routers are capable of that as well as provide an additional 400Mbps on top of that for local traffic giving you that 1.4Gbps total wireless bandwidth benchmark I mentioned earlier. A majority of current routers total bandwidth does not exceed 800-900 Mbps in most cases when it comes to wireless.

Giving this set a shot. The 3-piece Orbi 753 was a bust. Currently using 2-piece Velop AX4200. It has been flakey. Hope third time is the charm!

This or the ASUS AX86U?
