Still waiting to replace my 1TB NVMe SSD I bought four years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer at 1-2TB kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 8-128TB.

Everyone has been brainwashed to eat these high prices because xyz reasons. It's easier and cheaper to print ssd NAND memory than make a hard drive yet you don't see those staying stationary at 1-2TB for the past 4 years.

Is this better than the upcoming Costco sandisk deal for $99? Wanting to use it to store video files being edited.
Absolutely. This one is the one.

How is this a good deal? I guess if you need the fingerprint feature, it's just a gimmick for me.

This drive has existed for a couple of years. I wonder if they have a faster one coming out in the near future, something closer to the Samsung X5's speed.

If you're dead, they could get your fingerprint without your consent. 🖐 Whereas if it's password protected, it dies with you 😂

Unless you need encryption with fingerprint scanner, you're better off with the cheaper Sandisk at Costco.

How often do you need to renew the encryption authentication, and how does that work? Is this strictly for data that is accessed sporadically? What if you put games on it, but also important data? If you're playing a game, will it lock you out and crash the game until you authenticate?
This is a sort of niche product, but if you have a business , or you do your own taxes, you may want to keep your financial records and saved tax files on it. That would be my main purpose. Storing game info or things that do not need to be secure on this would just be wearing out the drive with read/writes that are not necessary. I would even be ok with a slower drive if it was cheaper. Then you can save your data and safe-deposit box it for just in case things. Some people store their crypto on it. I would not use this as a daily drive. Important archives is what I would use it for.

True, the Sandisk one comes with encryption SW if you need it, and it is the "Tough" version, so if you believe that it is more durable, that is a good buy!
