The 12900k uses less power than the 5900x and significantly less than 5950x in gaming, while providing more performance than Ryzen.

https://www.igorslab.de/en/intel-...-part-1/9/

In productivity its a mixed bag, in heavy single thread applications like CAD and Adobe, the 12900k still comes out ahead on performance and efficiency, but in rendering it comes out behind in efficiency.

https://www.igorslab.de/en/intel-...r-amd-2/9/

This only applies to the 12900k. The 12700k, 12600k, 12400, etc all are as efficient as Zen 3 across the board in productivity, while providing more performance while using less power in gaming. Its only the 12900k that it pushed hard at stock settings.

And the 5950x is $650, so unless you have an insanely high power cost, the 12900k is still the better deal at $499.

These are the only results I've seen that say this, many others find that the 12900k is comparable to, or more power hungry than, Zen 3 Ryzen 9 chips.

Just bringing the perspective.

Wow. Intel CPUs drop in price so quick at Micro Center. I just purchased mine last week and going to build a new PC this weekend when I get my heatsink.

How come they keep making processors but no video cards? I need a cheap video card like the 1660. Stuck using my 9800gt since my radeon 7970 stopped working. I have older working cards too, but nothing new.

they don't use the same nodes. Nvidia uses 8nm, amd 7nm, intel cpus are 10nm.

Doesnt the i9 have overheating issues or draw way too much power than its worth?

Got lucky here. I bought this for $549.99 at micro center but returned it before the 15-day return window closed. I returned it because of the high cost of DDR5 and motherboard.

Will just wait until prices go down again.

No one says you have to get a DDR5 motherboard. There are plenty of DDR4 boards that are LGA 1700.

Intel is about to launch "cheap" DG2 video cards with roughly around 1660 performance and 6 GB VRAM. Made on TSMC's node though.

The tentative name is Intel Arc A380.
