the one thing about ultra short throw is that they are ideally projected on a perfectly flat surface. Any waves in your screen or wall or sheet or whatever your projecting on will be very magnified because of the extreme angle of incident. In my opinion, ultra short throws work best with fixed projection screens, a smooth flat wall, or possibly a drop screen that is tab tensioned and not inexpensive pulldown screens or a fabric sheet or wavy sheetrock/plaster even wall texture could be trouble.
I have a 77" OLED and a 120" UST.

No one cares about the OLED after they see the projector.

Hi, thanks for the input. A quick question though- based on my research i did not come across a ALR screen that is acoustically transparent. Wondering how you managed to make it work. It would be a great help to me if there is an option of ALR and AT.
It doesn't exist. It can only be one or the other. Vividstorm has an acoustically transparent bottom portion attached to an ALR screen. That's about it.

How does it compare to a Hisense PX1-PRO?

Hisense is supposed to be superior

Excellent point. Maybe I'm getting old, but I find that most modern movies are too commercial, painfully politically correct and just kind of meh... 99% of what I watch is 1080p or lower.

You don't have to watch current year movies. It's awesome to watch Aliens, The Lord of The Rings, Saving Private Ryan, etc in 4K.

I had thought of getting a 4K projector, however, I just realized that majority of my movies or tv series are still in 1080p. I'm curious for those who got a 4K projector or TV, do you already have tons of movies/tv in 4k? Or mainly rely on 4k streaming service?
i am using appleTv and 4k does make a diff.
had 1080p projector for years.

What projector do you have? If you could only choose one, 83" OLED or a 120" UST projector, what would you choose?
I've had the 120" projector screen (with an older Epson projector) long before I got my OLED. For immersion, you really can't beat a giant screen. I'm not sure you realize how much more screen area you get going from 83" to 120". It's actually more than twice the screen area going from 83" (2944 sq in) to 120" (6153 sq in).

Are you me? I am currently going through this as well but with the Hisense L9G or PX1-Pro. I really am having trouble deciding between the OLED or UST. I know the OLED will have better picture quality but that size of 120"+ gets me excited!

True but which one has better picture quality? What 120" UST do you have?

Tough choice.

What projector do you have?

What is the reaction?

What projector do you have? Do you have a different room for projector or a screen in front of the TV?

If you could only choose one, 83" OLED or a 120" UST projector, what would you choose?

You and I have the exact same thought process. Currently going through the ringer on this. If you could only choose one, 83" OLED or a 120" UST projector, what would you choose? I know I won't do 100" and can fit 120". I keep going back and forth with that and the Hisense L9G or PX1-Pro
I would do an 83in OLED vs a 120in projection, but that's a bit of a self imposed limitation on your end as I don't limit my projection to 120in.

The OLED is super nice no matter how you look at it, but compared to my 144in projection I still would place it second in providing that, "wow" factor to a group.

Also, to directly answer your question, I have an L shaped couch and can watch the projector or the OLED TV anytime as they are mounted on different walls in the same room.

This or a 77 inch OLED for my basement? I am ok with spending upto $3000 and can get zero ambient lighting in the basement and have a whole empty wall that i can use to project stuff. Please help.

I want good blacks because literally every movie and TV show has a lot of dark scenes.
If you care most about inky, black blacks, get the OLED.
If you don't want to worry about setting up a sound system, get the OLED.
If you don't want the hassle of building/buying/mounting a screen (don't spend 3k on a projector and use your wall as a screen), get the OLED.
If you care about HDR, get the OLED.

Otherwise, once you go to a ~120" screen, you're not going to want anything else. It's great.

As the owner of a 77 oled, an 85 QLED and an Optoma p1, get the P2 especially if its for anything that isn't a bedroom or living room. Couldn't imagine having something as small as the 77 in the basement. Don't get me wrong the oled quality is amazing but from a movie standpoint or content viewing, the immersive-ness of the Optoma can't be beat. hell I didn't even have a sound system for a year on mine, just used the projector on top of a bucket with a $500 screen from bestbuy and was still amazed.

TLDR : Basement/theater room - Go with the Optoma. Living room/bedroom - go with 77 Oled

I have an older Acoustic Transparent Stewark Firehawk screen. it has a boxy aluminum frame that the screen buttons onto from behind. I can imagine this will create issues with the projector image hitting the frame and blocking the image. Does anyone have any experience or advice?

There is a black used liked new one at b&h that is 15% off this sale price https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...n_xpr.html

Be warned you only have a 90 return policy, but I believe you can buy an extended warranty through them. I grabbed a white used one with "scratch marks" for 25% off sale, 1875 before tax Smilie

You will have to pay for return shipping if sending it back. Also, I don't see extended warranty option.. where do you see it? I'm not sure this one will even have 1 year manufacturer warranty.

Will there ever be oled projectors? Will the technology allow it if it advances like 5-10 yrs from now?
