This uses a large 1/1.2" image sensor. Previously, the "good" cameras in this category use 1/1.7" and run in the $160 range. While the run-of-the-mill cameras use 1/2.7" sensors are often found in the $80.

Question is will firmware updates for the hikvision work with this Annke? This is a fairly new camera and there's probably firmware bugs to work out.

Those ipcamtalk guys really talk down on the likes of Annke because they claim you can't update the firmware. I don't know if that's true. There's a guy in here name Matt that used to provide good cameras info that was reliable.

Thanks coachclass:

Sweet! a 1/1.2" sensor camera!

Looks like a nice set of specs ..

From Annke's description:
"The PoE camera offers unparalleled 4K clarity with the pioneering 1/1.2″ STARVIS CMOS sensor. This flagship sensor captures the most authentic colors in every frame, every time. The 2.8 mm lens with an ultra-wide 124° diagonal angle covers a lot of objects, perfect for monitoring large areas."

fwiw: a number of ipcamtalk members really liked the Annke cube camera awhile back .. the issue was Annke's firmware was out of date and you'd need to update the firmware by going through multiple steps to get it up to the current firmware ( there was a internet attack exploit for the original firmware Annke had in the cameras )

Annke - as a brand, I have seen some real poor products in the past under their brand, they seem to be doing better now .. I would definitely consider this camera .. nice 1/1.2" sensor .. very nice

Yeah, was going to say. I'm one of those "ipcamtalk guys" and don't have any particular dislike for the better cams that they sell. Annke's general support and for firmware updates does suck. They never, as far as I know, provided any notice or updates for widely known critical exploits to the OEM Hikvision cams that they'd sold (like the cube cams). If they did, then it was long after I and others were pushing them to.

I think this cam is the same/very similar to the Hikvision DS-2CD2087G2-LU. You may be able to update the firmware with Hikvision's. You can with various other models. But Hikvision has been making that harder to do in recent years so not necessarily guaranteed.

One catch with all of these night-color cams is that even for the best cams you still need to have enough visible light to make them work well. Generally, that will mean light other than that from the cam.
Relying only on the on-cam illuminators doesn't work nearly as well for a variety of reasons. But the good news is that you don't need a lot to make them look great. With a similar Dahau cam I use a dimmable 150-watt equivalent LED flood that I have to turn down to about 10% or it's really too much light.

It looks like you can get the equivalent Hikvision from ebay for $30 more than this deal. Might be worth it to not have to do some tricks to update firmware. The firmware thing is the biggest catch for me.

Might also search for "IPC-Color4K-X" or "DH-IPC-HFW5849T1-ASE-LED" That's a similar Dahua 4K color cam that I can say first-hand is great and you're getting very close in price. I've not used the cam here to give any direct comparison and don't think that I've seen a good head-to-head. Both look good from what I've seen (assuming that you give them some light at least).

Just checked, the discount code is still working 2/3/2022

Should make a nice camera for anyone needing a good low light camera.
