I posted this on the Kasa smart switch 3 pack front page deal… thought it could be helpful here as well:

I've bought into the KASA ecosphere pretty heavily, and unfortunately it seems to be true that TP-LINK is phasing out Kasa. All signs point to them expanding their TAPO line and killing Kasa. I've stopped buying their products until TP-LINK starts being more transparent with their plans for the Kasa brand.

At CES last year, TP-link announced plans to get Kasa to work with Apple HomeKit. They've since announced they've cancelled that, and brought ZERO new products to CES 2022 under the Kasa banner… only TAPO branded devices.

The theory is that Kasa markdowns will be more frequent in US to sell off inventory before making the brand announcement here.

There are reports of manufacturers/retailers getting notices of "discontinued without replacement" on Kasa products.

FYI this is not the 15a version, it's the less than 12amp one and it also doesn't have energy monitoring
No Kasa expert here, but I have read while the DESCRIPTION claims the HS103 is good to 15A, the actual rating on some are 12A. Kasa website you reference states the HS103 can "Control any lite-duty device up to 12 AMPs" in one place, then later claims 15A resistive for "The New Version". Who knows what you'll get; some on Amazon have received 12A models.

Seems like a pretty decent price... I've been pretty satisfied with my Kasa bulbs, switches, and plugs.

Kasa is my favorite. I have lots of these I still need to use, though.

Description clearly says 15 AMP. Also see Kasasmart description of the same product. https://www.kasasmart.com/us/prod...plug-hs103

I am curious, what is everyone plugging into these that require 15 amps? Looking for ideas how to use all the plugs I have.

I use a Kasa smart plug to control our pond pump, which is rated at 15A. The Kasa plug I have is the 15A model that does energy monitoring, though. Can't remember the model, but I think I've had it for almost 3 years.

Timing a space heater to heat up a kitchen or bathroom before you get there is one possibility. A kettle or coffee maker might also temporarily approach 1800W. Even if the device is actually only designed to draw 10 amps, it is nice to know that there is a lot of capacity, though being UL certified means that is less important.

Some of these smart plugs actually have different ratings depending on how long the attached appliance is running. For example "10A Maximum Continuous Load (15A Max Peak Load for up to 1hr/day)" is written on one that I am using on an instant hot water dispenser that uses up to 800 Watts for about 15 minutes per day. If I were using it on a space heater for many hours per day it might overheat.

Washer, gas dryer, space heater, coffee maker, some pumps, there is also the possibility connecting a surge protector to one of these and controlling many things.

Open the Kasa app, select the outlet, hit the gear/sprocket icon at the top right, and select Device Info. It'll tell you the model (hardware version too)

I like the energy monitoring idea. Confused about the different Kasa plug models though!

Are you saying "device under 15Amps" means it is really 12amps?
