I just wanted to share an incident I had back in December. I have been doing the Kroger Fuel Points since 2013. I buy Kroger gift cards (mostly Amazon and my favorite restaurants) when these promotions appear, and I usually will get over 1,000 points. So naturally I want to max out my points, so my wife and I go to the gas station together, and we park each vehicle on either side of the pump, and I take the dispenser from my side and first fill up her car, and then she can leave and I finish filling up my own. We've been doing this for many years and saved hundreds of dollars in gas each year.

Well, it was a cold December morning, and we needed to take both of our children to the dentist before school, and we were both low on gas. We stopped by a Kroger Fuel Station around 7:00 am and there were no other customers there. We parked our cars on either side of the pump, and I started fueling my wife's car. There was an old man walking by, lining the trash cans, and he stopped at my fuel pump and was just staring at me. Even our daughter was in the car and felt uncomfortable. Suddenly the man says to me, "You can't do that." I ask him what he's talking about, and he says that I cannot use the same pump handle for both cars, that it stretches the fuel hose too much. Keep in mind that having the cars on both sides of the pump, I'm not stretching the hose at all. So I tell the guy I've been doing this for years and never had a problem. He yells at me, "YOU CAN'T DO THAT! YOU NEED TO STOP OR I'LL SHUT OFF THE PUMP!" So I take out the fuel dispenser from my wife's car and ask if she can pull in behind me so we fuel on a single side. He then changes the story and says it's one transaction per vehicle. I then ask him if I can at least fill up my car, and again he yells, "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" So at this point, I really feel like he doesn't want me there, so I hang up the fuel hose and end the transaction. It really hurt because I only got about $5 in my wife's car, and nothing for me, and I spent 1,000 points for those $5. I got a little bit of gas somewhere else to get by, and later that day I called Kroger customer service. Before I did that, I looked up the terms and conditions of the fuel program and couldn't find anything that I did that was violating those terms. I told customer service my story and asked if I did anything wrong. The guy I spoke to put me on hold to ask his team, and he came back and said that the fuel program was one transaction per vehicle. I mentioned I didn't see that in the terms and conditions and he had no answer. I also asked him what if I brought gas cans with me, if I could fill up my car and the gas cans in one transaction, and he said he wasn't sure. It really seemed like he wasn't interested in giving me a straight answer. I then asked if he could refund me the 1,000 points since the old man cut off my transaction and he did do that at least and apologized for my experience.

Since then I never went back there, and have done the double-car fill up 3 more times at other locations and never had a problem. What do you guys think? Did I do something wrong?

Oh, by the way, I looked up the location of this Kroger Fuel Center to pass it along to customer service, and on Google Maps I immediately started seeing bad reviews about the old man, lol! The best one was a person who tried to take a picture of the station from a distance, to leave a POSITIVE review, and the old man came out and told the customer to not take pictures and get off the property, so that positive review turned into a negative one. So the old man is definitely a psycho. It just sucks that my family had to go through that experience.

Thanks for reading this long post!

You did absolutely nothing wrong. Since the limit in Indiana is 35-gallons, to maximize our savings we pull both cars across from the pump, AND bring in two 5-gallon cans. Like you, we've been doing this for years and have never had anyone say anything to us. Keep getting those fuel rewards!

I would do the same thing if I had other members in my household.

I have four 5 gallon gas cans I bring along to get me to my $35 savings.

Lately I am noticing that Kroger has higher gas prices as everyone is using points to get discounts 🤷🏻. I have another grocery store right across and it was 10 cents cheaper per gallon today. Same thing with Murphy having 10 cents per gallon cheaper at times. Maybe it could be area specific but wondering if anybody else is seeing the same thing.

Yes. Sometimes it's 20-25 cents more than Sam's or Costco. Dilutes some of the discount but nothing comes close when you get $1 off.

Argh, looks like something has changed on their end. Both my transactions failed. I've been using this deal with same card and address etc for a couple years now. But I just tried to place an order for phone cards and got denied. Bummer.
Happened to me last time. The order was accepted, but next day I got an email that the order was canceled, and they cannot give a reason for security reasons.... whatever the hell it means!

Yes. I just take the ones I will use and go home and activate at Kroger dot com slash gift card activation. You enter the alternate id or Kroger card number to get the points. It's 4x when you activate there. If you don't want to take the cards get them for pickup and do the same

This link?

https://krogerpickup.cashstar.com...activation

It doesn't mention anything other than 2X fuel points there, nothing abut 4X fuel points.

What happens after you enter your information to activate it? How do you pay for it?

Yes it's not worth buying GC when Costco is 30 cents cheaper

Technically it's a fire hazard and they could get fined. We have Giant Eagle grocery stores around here and on the pump it says no double pumping. I used to do what you have done for a while but then they made a big deal about it so I stopped. Your lucky to have been doing it for as long as you have. Customer service won't do anything to help with the situation, waste of time.

The only thing you had going for you is if the station pumps didn't have a notice that said no double pumping. I would have told the guy that clearly has mental issues, to get a manager out to the station. Explain the situation, show the pumps didn't have a no double pump notice. Ask since you already used your points to make a one time exception, let you double pump. The employee would probably throw a tantrum about it but that's what I would have done and explain to the manager/employee that you must post a notice of no double pumping so customers know not to use fuel points that you can't get back.

your link look the same but that's the one I use. I got 4x on January 6 and January 11. I'm sure there's a chance that they suspended the 4x for activating online. But I just looked to verifiy that I did get 4x on those purchase dates. You enter the UPC of the barcode on the card (like on the packaging). Then you usually enter the long number on the physical card. Next time I buy a card I will report back here on whether it is still 4x or is now only 2x.

This used to be a 'rule' about 5-10+ years ago in ohio.. What you would find is attendants try to give you a hard time and maybe go as far as shut down the pumps. Their claim it was as 'safety' concern..much like you weren't allowed to use your cell phone (remember those stickers on the pumps?) around the pumps in case it discharged static or something.. IMO, it was all a veiled concern to try to keep you from hitting a full 35 gallons per fillup.

What you probably found was a grumpy old dude who is still trying to enforce the old rules. I caught hell a few times and started using red cans, which they had no problem with (but is likely more of a safety concern especially when you're filling them on a truck tailgate vs. the ground).. I actually never went back to trying to coordinate the multi-vehicle fill-up, since it typically was more hassle to drive both vehicles at the same time, when they were both low to maximize my 35 gallons. I scoured FB marketplace for 'blitz' red cans, put vents in them and now use these to hit my 35 gallons.. then bring them home and top off my wife's car when it's low.

btw - i'm still jealous of states like TN, etc that allow for more than a $1/gallon discount.

Is this on any of the gift cards at the Gift Card center kiosk? It says participating gift cards but doesn't list which ones they are. Too bad I just bought a Netflix gift card last night!

It's always good to ask the gas attendant to see if they allow dbl car fill, most places don't mind at all. 35 gallons is the max you can use for a dollar off, so you can save up to $35 dollars filling your vehicles! When the prices are high, fill your can or two! Just remember Kroger can cut you off from using fuel points for any reason with no explanation so ALWAYS ASK FIRST!

To follow up on myself -- has anyone bought a Kroger visa gift card, then used that gift card to buy a gas card, essentially double-dipping on fuel points? And even if the double-dip doesn't work, will they all gift card purchases made from a pre-paid visa card?
You'll have to double check, but I don't think the Kroeger gift cards count towards the fuel bonus. Plus most stores wont let you use a gift card to purchase another gift card.

They are asking about buying a VISA card through Kroger gift card portal (since that will also earn fuel points with coupon) and then using the VISA card to buy another gift card, essentially getting 8x fuel points. If someone tries it and is successful, let us know!!

Forgot about those stupid stickers. Reminds me of the stupidity of turning off electronic devices for takeoff and landing.
