Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

Canceling for sure. At this point, WM+ offers way more value. GG.

Looks like a good time to gift a prime membership to yourself and have it sent a few days before renewal.

Count me out. Prime fee going up while Amazon's pricing continues to become less competitive, large numbers of items I've bought from Amazon are out of stock, quality of movies offered on Prime Video continues to decline dramatically and customer service is increasingly handled by offshore workers with substandard English skills.

NOTE: Just checked and found that my renewal date is March 19, so maybe I'll stick for another year, despite issues above.

should be able to get around this by gifting yourself Prime. Schedule it to be sent on the day before your current membership expires.

As a prime member I'm still waiting for 2 day shipping. It's been about a year since anything I've purchased qualified (even though it's shipped and sold by Amazon).

Odd how that has worked out.

Could you technically buy two gift cards and lock in the price for two years?

For e.g. account renews in Nov'22. Buy one and schedule it for Nov 2022 and another one for Nov 2023...

Anyone who has done something like this before, pls advise. TIA!

I've been on the fence for some time about ditching Prime. Service has become sketchy, food is not always fresh, and a few times since the pandemic Amazon has even sent used, counterfeit, or completely wrong items.

I do use Prime video quite a lot however, not a Netflix fan, so that is what keeps me hooked. Decisions, decisions ….
Would you / anyone know if Prime is cancelled do we lose access to the Prime Video movies/shows we purchased? I guess similar question for Kindle book content? Do we have to maintain an active Prime Account in order to access purchased content?

According to Amazon, shifting Prime shipping from 2 days to "several" days has meant a lot more stuff is clogging up the warehouses for longer, so they need to pay for warehouse expansion.
they keep raising the price for us to store items in their warehouse for sales as well.. so...

Note that you may be able to gift yourself one more year at $119 by buying Prime via this link:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/prime/p...g_landing?
Note that the fine print of the gift prime membership seems to convert a gift membership to a gift card if the recipient already has a prime membership:

"Amazon will send your gift recipient an email on the day you choose along with redemption instructions. The gift recipient can start their Prime membership right away. If the recipient is already a Prime member, the gift can be exchanged for an Amazon.com Gift Card in the value of the original gift purchase price plus any applicable sales taxes paid. Mine expires in 11/2025 (thanks to metro pcs). Is it okay to keep the gift membership unused until then?
