Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

IMO, other retailers do a good enough job these days that you don't need amazon prime any longer.

I keep it cause I'm only paying for the student price. Can't justify 140 bucks though. It was good when shipping was fast and you could pay 3.50 for real overnight delivery. Sucks today.

Because their profit has almost doubled in the past year according to the Wall Street journal.

To everyone leaving.......You'll be back. You all will be back. This is what we created and asked for when we laughed at the brick and mortar stores and gave them the middle finger salute and laughed at their demise. Stores like Circuit City, Sears, Media Play, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Frys, Blockbuster, Sam Goody, ToysRUs, Radio Shack, Linens & Things, HHGregg, CompUSA, HiFi Buys, The Wiz, Pier1 Imports, Levitz Furniture, KMart, Hancocks Fabrics, Babbages, Builders Emporium....and I could go on and on. These stores aren't coming back. Ever. The sad part is that we will keep adding to the list until our cities and towns are overrun with Family Dollar Stores, gas stations, fast food restaurants, and the occasional WalMart. We wished extinction on all of these stores and praised the Amazon e-commerce model, and in the process we have created an entity that's damn near too big to fail - and getting bigger. Sadly, the biggest selection of ANYTHING you are looking for is on Amazon. So, you may hate Amazon and cancel Prime now, but you'll be back - you literally won't have a choice. Bezos was never going to be satisfied with the initial $89/yr. Prime membership, and it won't be the last price increase. This is what we asked for, and this is what we deserve.
Actually, I stopped using Amazon Prime in 2018 with the last price increase and shifted my purchases around to others (target, best buy..) and never felt like I missed anything other than the cheap chinese iphone cases. I only came back to Prime this past year with the $59 student pricing, but most certainly will not be paying $140 once I stop getting that price, and I reckon I (and most everyone who choose not to use prime) will be just fine

Finally inflation catches up. I mean Costco and others have been jacking up the membership fees. It was only matter of time. Can't blame Amazon.
Considering their profits, YES, we can blame amazon.
