Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

Wow, I remember when Prime was $79. Then, $99. Didn't realize they jacked up the price from $99, so seeing $139 is a real shocker.

their amazon prime video app absolutely sucks. they should do the video stuff as an optional add-on to prime
They won't though, exactly because the app sucks and they need to boost subscriber numbers

Is it possible to use Prime Video without a Prime Membership? I don't care about 2 day shipping, as my orders are usually not time sensitive (auto parts, books, etc.).

I have noticed that Prime Video has gone downhill in the last couple of years. Lots of older TV movies that I have already seen on network television, and not as many good prime original series (Bosch, The Expanse, etc.). Can anyone suggest a good alternative to Prime Video that would only cost 10$/month?

Since I have gotten free Walmart membership through my platinum Amex I have been using them more often, and barely every use Amazon anymore. Walmart's shipping is slower, they rarely hit their delivery window, but their prices are generally the same or lower. Time to dump Prime.

It is still a deal overall for anyone that orders from Amazon all the time and also watches some of their programming available with prime. I'm also able to share the Free shipping with several family members and we divvy up the fees three ways which makes it even more affordable. I'm thinking the increase was to help pay for Bezos' Super Yacht [foxbusiness.com] and to remove a section of a 145 year old bridge so he can get the Yacht out of the harbor into the sea. How the rich like to spend money....

Haha 2day shipping is not really a thing anymore either. Most of my amazon shipments take 3-4days and some over a week now.

I agree the video side has been sliding. I can;t remember the last thing I watched on amazon after Bosch ended.

Why the increase?
Bezos got a new girlfriend and she has expensive tastes.

Now every Tom , Dick and Harry is going to create a post about this.
Then every Tom, Dick and Harry is going to create posts bitching about Amazon, Bezos and being unable to afford Prime.

In 4 Prime shipping, staying for The Expanse.
So unfortunate that the series is done…at least temporarily. Now I'm staying for Reacher and LOTR.

Want change to the medicaid price? We are a foster family and get the discounted rate.
Was wondering the same thing. According to amazon chat support, there will be no increase for those on the discounted plan. Take that for what it's worth.
