Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

What is and benefits of a "grandfathered status" ?

Account does not expire, it keeps your history and orders and whayt not, just that "prime" will stop.

Would love to know..
Grandfathered accounts allow you to share your account with 4 other people (they each have their own login, payment methods etc)
Non-grandfathered accounts share payment info and the number of people that can use it is more limited (2 people)

Amazon Prime membership used to let you have additional 4 accounts attached to your Prime membership and those 4 accounts didn't have to be "family members living in the same household". (Technically, yes, the additional 4 accounts were supported to be living the same household as you are but you didn't have to show the proof to Amazon.) So, many main Prime membership holders had their family/friends/random strangers attached to their main Prime membership account and each person pays the 1/5 fee. Now, you can only have 1 another person from household share your main Prime membership.
I wonder if the 'household' version counts all promos as one per account for all adults on the account? Right now being grandfathered into the old version of Prime the wife and I can usually use the 'one per account promos' once on each of our accounts.

I'm milking that Prime Student discount now that I started grad school!
Student Prime account will also increase $10 but it's still a lot better deal.than regular Prime membership price.

I am pretty sure any promo Amazon usually has is one per Amazon account and not "one per household".

I read your post 3 times but am not sure what your question is.

Yes but it's not just the Amazon web site included in Prime! Prime video and gaming are two big features . Especially Prime video is something it is hard to imagine losing. The Amazon Prime shipping from the web site stopped using 2-day shipping to my area about a year ago. Now they send ALL Prime packages by UPS ground or even worse — by US Mail. I would have stopped paying for Prime back then if it were just the Amazon web site.
Prime is not just shipping and gaming for me. I also love free first reads on kindle, discounted items and shipping on woot, prime video, and occasional deal on audible. oh the early access on BF and prime day. Unpopular opinion, But I wont mind paying $20 more.

My local stores usually dont have stock of items or get sold out. I always try to buy local if available and try to pm with amazon but not having stock is a pain. Plus how many stores would I have to search if I need a item like eg. Universal TV stand for 65 inch TV or a HVAC filter of specific size of my unit not sold at MSRP?

don't they stop. (mine did Frown even though I still have the .edu email)
I believe Prime student membership gives you 4 years of reduced price. Did you use it for 4 years before it stopped giving you for Prime student membership price? If not, why did they stop giving you?

And that's tied to Prime? Or just age of Amazon account?

I read your post 3 times but am not sure what your question is.
For example, a recent deal of a a Kasa smart bulb that was 99 cents could only be purchased once per account. I as only able to add one to my cart and buy at that price, if I wanted to add more or try another order it was regular price and I could not get them at 99 cents anymore. But I was able to get another one for 99 cents on my wife's account.

I guess it doesn't matter though, I just checked and it looks like I'm not grandfathered anymore. I thought I still was but I'm only seeing 'members of my household' when I check my account. When looking at my Prime receipts for membership it looks like there's a gap between 2014 and 2018. I think this is when they were giving free year of Prim with the Prime phone purchases and I remember buying a few and reselling them, I think using those free year links/codes essentially did what this gifting of membership did and did away with my grandfathered plan.

I'm curious too, ironically the purchased stuff is not purchased. I believe I read somewhere it's a "long term" rental..
I currently do not have Prime membership and still own the movies and Kindle books I bought before.

Tied to prime, grandfathered accounts refers to accounts that took advantage of being able to share benefits with 4 other people. You had to have set it up in your account before they changed the terms, which was a few years ago

I never had grandfathered Prime membership plan, but as I understand, Amazon promo is usually one per account, regardless of Prime status (not one per Prime membership account when there are 5 account attached). If the deal is one per Prime membership account, then only main Prime account holder may be able to get it? I am not sure about that.

So, you used to have additional accounts attached to your Prime membership as grandfathered? What happened to them? You didn't notice until now... Didn't they mention to you about no longer having Prime memberships under your main Prime account (although they were paying you for theirs)?

It was just my sister (that is not in my household now) but maybe I already had this conversation with her back then about the Prime account and I just don't remember. I think she's either not using Prime anymore or on someone else's household maybe, she didn't use it much anyways. She wasn't paying me for it, I just let her use it.
