I have this in a desktop 2.1 setup and is a bit boomy for my liking (97% music, 3% other stuff). Was hoping the 8" was on sale so I could swap it into a bigger role somewhere else, but no.

Wow, I would have not expect this subto be boomy. I wanted to put this sub behind my couch for 5hat extra boom but the boss said NO WAY!!!

Amazon has the 8" for $128.12 (I don't where they get .12 from), not cheaper but if you a looking to get the 8" sub, there you go - LINK[amazon.com]

Sounds like your sub isn't setup correctly. Subwoofers require room/listener specific placement, and a lot of people have their sub turned up too high. Either of those issues can cause a sub to sound boomy. The only way to tell if sub is naturally boomy (emphasizes one or more frequencies over the entire bass band) is to measure its output in an outdoor or anechoic environment.

Try moving it around, location location location!
I had a sub 6 ft from side walls and 3 ft from the front wall temporarily bc there was stuff in the way. Sounded good, I moved it into the corner the other day and it sounded like I added 2 more subs! I actually just turned it so the port doesn't face the wall yesterday and again huge difference (trying to quiet it and balance better)

Edit - Jamo 808 8" Sub Walnut $110.78 from Amazon [amazon.com]
In my use case, it is. Maybe I just don't appreciate its finer points
Could be for other people, and it's great in a more open 2.1 setup I have for vinyl. Not for my small office desk setup, however.
