Good timing. Just bought this last month. Got the credit via chat this morning.

Note, the included smart sensor is a bit useless. It responds way too slowly to temperature changes. This causes your heat or ac to stay on or off for longer periods of time.

Edit: Don't forget folks, utility companies also offer rebates. Combined gas/electric is $100 rebate here.

So you are saying the smart temperature sensor doesn't work as well as you thought? I was planning on getting this and keeping the sensor in the bedroom at night since the thermostat in the hallway and not accurate enough to keep the bedrooms comfortable all night.

Define well? My expectation was for the sensor to measure temperature changes at the same rate as tstat (or close to it). Temps readings should align when the sensor and tstat are near one another. They don't when the heat is on. Only after a long period of heat being off does this happen.

That was my test to determine baseline accuracy of the sensors/tstat.

That would be a deal breaker I think. I expected it to essentially offload the thermostat temp monitoring to the sensor, but would expect it to be accurate and fast. Thanks for providing your experience.

Here's a good example. Data over the past day

https://i.imgur.com/Lb37gp4.png

Note the yellow and blue lines. Yellow is thermostat reading, blue is sensor. Sensor is physically ~3" away from thermostat. Near the wall as the tstat is.

Between 11pm and 2am the system is completely off. The two lines are relatively parallel with the sensor reading slightly higher.

Between 5pm and 10pm the system has a 68F set point. Note the height of the blue line in comparison to thermostat. If sensor was part of temp calculations, system would remain on much longer.

Note, some of this may be alleviated using the thermostat temperature offset, which I tried. The end result is still lengthier system run time.

I see what you mean by the sampling rate/accuracy of the thermostat being a lot better. Maybe I'll ping the company and see if they can give some concrete reason why.

Did you research any other smart thermostats or think about trying another brand?

Good luck. When I reached out to them, they said that was operating within normal parameters.

The whole sensors thing was just an added bonus from the costco package. There were no other sensors used with the previous thermostat. The house is small enough that additional sensors are not really needed.

Have enough google products here. Someone recommended this and its available at costco, reason enough. At some point I will integrate this into home assistant as well.
